Architect Hideyuki Nakayama started out working for Toyo Ito & Associates before establishing his own firm in 2007. This collection of Nakayama’s work is presented in the form of brochures for five films, each featuring one of his architectural works. With its novel design by Idea Oshima and in as much detail as possible, the volume records the production processes for the films, which focused on the status of the five works after Nakayama had completed them and moved on. Additionally, it offers a closer look at his design concepts for architecture, and in particular the elements he tries to incorporate in them. I had shot several rolls of film with the old Leica M4 camera passed on to me by my father. At that time I was an undergraduate student at Stirling University. Soon after that my life became all about parenthood and a full-time career in social work. So the negatives from my 1970’s adventures went into storage, occasionally dragged around house moves in Scotland, but mainly forgotten for over four decades..." Heidi Alexander

First edition. This book traces the story from early spatial experiments with film and video technologies to the current widespread use of projected images in museums and galleries. Why has there been a turn to the cinematic in contemporary art? What happens to the moving image when it shifts from the black box to the white cube, when cinema is exhibited? How does this challenge the traditional mediums of film, painting and sculpture? This publication gathers together key texts including new, translated and previously unavailable essays by writers and theorists including Giorgio Agamben, Beatriz Colomina, Serge Daney, Rosalind Krauss, Maurizio Lazzaratto and Peter Wollen.

Summary:
In discussing what makes The Way Things Go utterly compelling to its viewers—whether they have seen it one time or many times—Jeremy Millar leaves no doubt as to why this film was chosen for the One Work series. As everyday objects crash, scrape, slide, or fly into one another with devastating, impossible, and persuasive effect, viewers find themselves witnessing a spectacle that seems at once prehistoric and postapocalyptic. Millar tells us why this extraordinary film speaks to us at the beginning of the twenty-first century. If history is "just one thing after another," then The Way Things Go is truly a historic work.

Summary:
"New Living” (Das Neue Wohnen) was the title of an exceptional architectural propaganda film created in 1930 by German avant-garde artist and filmmaker Hans Richter. It show-cased exemplary modernist buildings and furniture – some of which were on view shortly afterwards in the prestigious exhibitions "The International Style” – and contrasted them with impractical, unhygienic living spaces. The visual diversity of "New Living”, and its use of an experimental montage technique, pioneered a radical new method of portraying architecture on celluloid. This publication includes detailed sequences from the New Living film, as well as numerous documents that illustrate the new style of architectural modernism. Previously priced at $96.00.
