Summary:
Long before the internet and its vast stores of information in digital form, information in analog form needed to be organized so that it was legible and accessible. One designer who revolutionized the presentation of printed information was modernist pioneer Ladislav Sutnar (1897–1976). In 1950, Sutnar and architect K. Lonberg-Holm published Catalog Design Progress, a guide to modernizing the design of printed materials through typographic simplicity, compositional ingenuity, and navigational devices that signal the logical flow of information. This meticulously created facsimile of the original book illustrates and enacts Sutnar's ideas, making clear their continuing influence on graphic design.

Opening with an essay by Andreas Marx on the role of workplaces in cities, this special edition of the magazine presents eighteen international works that reflect the increasing flexibility of creative jobs in the 21st century. Designers, artists, and many other professionals are approaching their daily activities in new ways, and the freedom offered by mobile devices and Internet ubiquity is liberating their fast-paced work from prescribed locations and times. Office systems are incorporating new functions and activities as a result, like open zones without hierarchies and areas that operate like urban public spaces. With works by 3XN, Torafu Architects, OMA, Davidson Rafailidis, and more.

Summary:
Independent publishing, art publishing, publishing as artistic practice, publishing counterculture, and the zine, DIY, and POD scenes have proliferated over the last two decades. So too have art book fairs, an increasingly important venue?or even medium?for art. Art publishing experienced a similar boom in the 1960s and 1970s, in response to the culture's "linguistic turn." Today, art publishing confronts the internet and the avalanche of language and images that it enables. The printed book offers artists both visibility and tangibility. "Publishing Manifestos" gathers texts by artists, authors, editors, publishers, designers, zinesters, and activists to explore this rapidly expanding terrain for art practice.

This publication challenges us to re-examine what photography is today. With essays by Joan Fontcuberta, Derrick de Kerckhove, Suzanne Paquet, Fred Ritchin, David Tomas.

Digital devices gather real-time data about urban space with sensors, actuators, and artificial intelligence. We have entered the era of the ''eyes of the city,'' when each of us must negotiate everyday life under the omnipresent gaze. Following up on the eponymous exhibition at the Bi-City Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture 2019, this book examines the relationships between cities and digital technologies across various disciplines. As the Internet of Things dramatically expands its reach, touching upon critical issues including individual anonymity, data ownership, and design by proxy, how can designers, architects, and urban stakeholders see eye to eye with our artificial counterparts?

Summary:
“My art is not my work; you are the creator of your image in your head. I do not exist at all.” Those are the words of Michael Schirner, Germany’s “pope of advertising.” In his oeuvre, Schirner treats the visual worlds of mass culture and high culture as well as the perception of images communicated via media. He does not create new images. His images are images about images. Magazines, newspapers, films, television, the internet, advertising, and art are his image archives. Schirner works and reworks that which is stored in our collective memory. The goal of his work is to make the invisible visible.
