Summary:
Originally released in 2011 as a limited edition hardback, this paperback edition is a facsimile of the book which earned Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin the 2013 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. War Primer 2 appropriates the first English-language version of Bertolt Brecht’s remarkable 1955 Kriegsfibel in which Brecht combined press photographs from the World Wars with four-line poems. Compiled intermittently over three decades, Brecht’s book was a visual and lyrical attack on war and its propagandists under modern capitalism. Shifting the critique to contemporary narratives perpetuated by the so-called 'War on Terror', Broomberg and Chanarin strategically overlay the pages of Brecht’s War Primer with images culled from the internet and generated by the actors, propagators and reporters of the contemporary conflict.

Summary:
In the 19th century railroads and canals provided both structure and motor for city development. This role has been taken over today by the global flow of data and products, as the author argues. The author describes the current development and its impact on architecture, landscape architecture and urbanism. Flow of material and communication is the DNA of contemporary environments. This development has enormous and partially unfathomable implications for our city fabric. Logistics networks and their complex structure increasingly bear upon many urban spheres. Counter trends to the ubiquitous internet retail trade – to name one of the most palpable phenomena – are gaining momentum as well, exemplified by the criticism of labor conditions in e-commerce and the trend to buy regional products from local stores.

Summary:
Surveillance cameras ensure our safety, antennae and sensors track the speed of our cars, while electronic gates decide who is to be granted access to an increasing number of delimited zones. The book charts this international trend, using case studies in Shanghai, Tokyo, London and Rio de Janeiro, as well as cities in the Netherlands. What are the consequences of an ultra-monitored society? When does the technology aid us and when does it restrict us? Who wields control over the technology? And who sits behind the contraptions that are tracking us? Expert authors tackle these questions and make recommendations for the future. Incorporating digital media into the book's design, tags make it possible to download supplementary information and videos via an Internet-capable mobile device.

Summary:
Start with the fact that the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has in its collection a moon rock, brought to Earth in 1969 on Apollo 11. This book takes that artifact to the next step, asking a group of artists and writers whether perhaps the museum should be planning a branch on the moon itself in the future. This thought-provoking little book riffs on the themes of space travel and colonization, with texts on site-specificity, history, space law and its global implications. Also included is a list of almost 800 songs which have the word "moon" in their title. In a world where eager buyers trade "moon lots" on the internet, is the whole idea of a moon museum so far fetched?
