Summary:
This anthology presents work on cultures of assembly. It stresses the relevance of small-scale and decentralized spatial formats of local knowledge production to community building and embedded political decision-making in the context of the socio-ecological transition. It reinforces the role of both individual and collective action while proposing distributed assembly and proximity as core attributes in the production of the contemporary and future city. It calls for a revised form of spatial politics. "Agonistic assemblies" asks: how can spaces—both physical and virtual—be envisaged to create publics? How is collectivity and society being generated spatially and in terms of policy? How do we “practice” society as a bodily, spatial form, and how does this practice contribute to spatial justice? Are there specific spatial settings that can intensify these practices? What kind of spatial design can we imagine as platforms for change?

Summary:
Eastern modernist architecture of the 60s and 70s is moving away from the specialized focus of international architecture debates and becoming a subject of discussion within the broader context of general interest. The excellent photos in the book convey the flair of an era in which planning was obviously the product of a collective vision, more so than is the case today. The photographic and documentation project compiled by Herta Hurnaus, who lives in Vienna, and the architects Benjamin Konrad and Maik Novotny analyzes the work of prominent Slovakian architects of the time in a photographic documentary and an "oral history. The monumental prestigious buildings are above all the most impressive at first glance, with their features that display parallels to the sculptural designs of popular contemporary offices. The illustrated book contains short interviews in an appendix and address architects and all those who are fascinated the aesthetic of the time.

Summary:

Summary:
Under the title ‘Community Care’, AV Proyectos 128 features six works that cater to specific needs through an attentive and sensitive architecture that prioritizes a collective approach, as show the centers designed by Mae Architects, Vivas Arquitectos, or Dorte Mandrup. Paz Martín, architect and expert in the field, introduces the dossier with an essay that analyzes how assistance can shape the project strategy. Along the same lines, in an interview with the magazine the architect and professor Izaskun Chinchilla talks about the city of care and how the buildings that compose it are not just hospitals and clinics. In the process section, the complex by Herzog & de Meuron in North Zealand is an example of how to depart from traditional hospital building typologies. The issue also analyzes the high-rise construction boom in Albania, with proposals by MVRDV, Valerio Olgiati, and Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, among other firms.

Summary:
Inspired by comic-book culture, Pop art, psychedelia, the space race, sci-fi, Constructivism and Buckminster Fuller, the hugely influential British collective Archigram was the epitome of 1960s avant-garde architecture. Their self-published, lo-fi but materially ingenious magazine Archigram, begun in 1961, announced their ideas for such visionary concepts as "Walking City," "Plug-In City" and "Instant City." It also served to connect the international avant-garde of the 1960s. Archigram forged links with the Metabolists in Japan, Frei Otto, Utopie and Haus-Rucker-Co in Europe, and Buckminster Fuller in the US. They were also championed by critics such as Charles Jencks and Reyner Banham, who brought Archigram's famous fourth pop-up issue to the US in 1966. Today "Archigram" is one of the rarest major small-press publications of the 1960s, with individual issues selling for a minimum of $600.

Summary:
In the summer of 1934, the London Zoo opened its new Penguin Pool. Designed by Berthold Lubetkin and the Tecton Company, in collaboration with Ove Arup, the elegant, interlocking concrete spiral ramps on which the penguins “showcase their social talents” was met with universal acclaim. In the years since, the structure has been celebrated for its iconic architecture—and has justly been criticized for its inadequacy when it comes to housing penguins. The collective research conducted in the framework of the Bauhaus Lab in 2023 critically reflects on the far-reaching constellations, geographical imaginaries, design discourses and material entanglements of this multi-species environment. Based on archival research and excursions, the publication unfolds multiple epistemologies of the Penguin Pool through a spectrum of theoretical, historical and cultural phenomena straddling the realms of architecture, historiography and more-than-human entanglements, while at the same time proposing contemporary gestures of co-habitation.

Summary:
On the eve of the Women’s Day manifestations of 2021, the Mexican government erected metal barricades surrounding the National Palace—the seat of federal executive power—in the heart of Mexico City. This was meant to prevent damage by demonstrators and, therefore, "protect the heritage of all Mexicans and avoid confrontation...a wall of peace that guarantees liberty and protection from provocations," in the words of the President's spokesman. On Saturday, March 6, the feminist collective Antimonumenta CDMX decided to paint the barricades with the names of recent victims of femicide in Mexico. Over the next few hours, hundreds of women spontaneously gathered to honor the absent women, writing their names and leaving flowers: an offering to remember them, to not forget, and, by doing so, to honor them. This series of photographs documents the barricades that were intervened in those days so that they may still be read.

Summary:
What comes after the Anthropocene? Can we depart from our human-centered perspective to build a future for the benefit of all species? What tools and techniques might help us get there? These are the questions investigated by the long-term interdisciplinary project "Interspecies future", which brings together perspectives from art, science, and technology to explore what this future might look like. First initiated in 2022 by LAS Art Foundation, this project explores new pathways for planetary thinking and collective intelligence. With more than 60 contributions, this interactive reader is the first book to provide an extensive foundation of key concepts, debates, and case studies that propose ways to re-frame, repair, and re-imagine interspecies relations. "Interspecies future: A primer" draws on recent advancements in planetary computation and machine learning, new discoveries in non-human intelligence, as well as post-human theory and Indigenous knowledge.
