From June 6, 2021 to September 5, 2021, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art presents “Wang Tuo: Empty-handed into History.” As Wang Tuo’s (b. 1984, Changchun) first institutional solo show, this exhibition collects eight of the artist's single- and multi-channel video works, including, in its complete form for the first time, “The Northeast Tetralogy,” as well as related archival materials and sketches from the artist, presenting an overview of the artist's early-career works. On the occasion of the exhibition, UCCA published Wang Tuo's first-ever catalogue, which reproduces his video works through still images and script excerpts. Essays by exhibition curator Luan Shixuan and critics Fu Liaoliao and Zian Chen contextualize the artist's oeuvre through the perspectives of history, literary theory, Chinese traditional beliefs, and other frameworks.

Summary:
Julien Valée explore the relative roles of the computer and handmade processes in design. Vallée works in a wide range of fields, including art direction, motion graphics, print design, and art installation as well as video and design for the television industry. With his expert use of manual processes strongly supported by the technological tools of today-mainly in mixing a digital conception phase with different implementation materials, such as paper, wood, and plastic-he creates outstanding art and design that seamlessly bridges the gaps between these disciplines. This first monograph not only presents Julien Vallée's commissioned work for clients such as the New York Times, MTV, AOL, and Computer Arts, but also includes a selection of personal projects. Each book includes a unique log-in code for accessing his video work online.

Summary:
Christian Marclay explores the fusion of fine art and audio cultures, transforming sounds and music into a visible, physical form through performance, collage, sculpture, installation, photography, and video. Published in a 3-volume magazine format, this exhibition catalogue aims to capture the spontaneity of his process-oriented practice. Although the structure of the magazines is intentionally loose, there are some themes that each issue addresses: the first issue, titled 'Prelude', historically contextualizes Marclay's work; the second, 'Interlude', addresses his early work and discusses the performances taking place at the Whitney; and the third, 'Reprise', looks at his later work and video scores. As a whole, "Christian Marclay: Festival" is a thoughtful and creatively packaged document that captures how this artist's compelling practice has evolved over time and continues to expand and develop.
