From films where food is the central theme, such as ‘Julie & Julia’ (2009), ‘Tortilla Soup’, ‘Babette’s Feast’ (1987), and ‘Tampopo’ (1985), to ones in which it plays a supporting role, like ‘The Scent of Green Papaya’ (1993), ‘Eat Drink Man Woman’ (1994), and ‘Goodfellas’ (1990), dozens of classic, cult, and perhaps underappreciated or forgotten films can be experienced again in this gastronomic celebration of cinema.

Summary:
Based in Los Angeles, film director and architect Liam Young’s work is situated within the fields of design fiction and critical design. ‘Planet City’ is an urgent examination of the productive potential of extreme densification in an imagined future where ten billion people surrender the rest of the planet to a global wilderness. In a vision that runs counter to our current world, the book describes a radical reversal of planetary sprawl, where humans retreat from our vast network of cities and supply chains into one hyper-dense metropolis. Not a techno-utopian fantasy, this work of critical architecture and speculative fiction is grounded in statistical analysis, research, and traditional knowledge.

Summary:
Since the invention of photography, the family has been a constant subject of photographic observation, both in private photo albums and in artistic series. The group exhibition Family Affairs – Family in Current Photography, conceived by Ingo Taubhorn, curator of the Haus der Photographie, examines the current status of this traditional genre. A transcontinental selection of artistic projects from the last decade reveals both the diversity of photographic approaches and the heterogeneity of family models and complex dynamics. The catalog presents a wide variety of series and work groups and contextualizes the positions through comprehensive essays on various family themes in both photography and film, as well as within our society.

Summary:
"[The exhibition is] powerful and unhinged and overbuilt—a monument to the entropy of the postindustrial city, and the tenuous dance of its inhabitants." —New York Times Gordon Matta-Clark and Pope.L are esteemed for their respective interdisciplinary practices that examine the value and paradoxes of urban life as well as the risk inherent in art making. Utilizing performance, film, drawing, and various multimedia projects, the two artists often open up interstitial spaces by realizing sweeping gestures that take into account shifting, decentralized zones. Grounded in the concept of failure, the sixth exhibition at 52 Walker and its accompanying catalogue reconsider societal, artistic, and structural failure—and its related expressions of hope.

They distinguished themselves by conveying the message in a clear, concise and forceful manner. Schuitema himself referred to it as right ahead. In an international context, this typography and photography matched the work of El Lissitzky and Alexander Rodchenko in Russia, Karel Teige and Nadislav Sutnar in the erstwhile Czechoslovakia, and Herbert Bayer, Joost Schmidt and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy in Germany. This book, the first monograph on Paul Schuitema, not only deals with his graphic work, but also with his activities as a photographer, film-maker, and furniture designer.
