Summary:
"Old Europe" is beginning to show strong signs of renewed vitality, to judge from the results of this latest edition of the European Union prize for contemporary architecture - Mies van der Rohe award 2003. And not only because 269 works were selected, or because the number of competing countries (particularly those of Eastern Europe) is steadily increasing, bit also by virtue of the high average standard of the entries, particularly of the winning projects and 40 runner-up featured in this catalogue. In the end, the winning project encompasses all this : Zaha Hadid's tram station in Strasbourg is at the same time a strategy, open-ended, imperfect, intelligent and playful. But it also resolved and unafraid to identify with conventional architectural qualities.

The Architecture Annual offers a selection of articles on the school's progress in research and education. Embracing a broad range of topical issues, it includes a cross-section of research performed by Faculty members and coverage of the graduation projects carried out by students in the academic year 2001-2002. This year, design research has been the main focus of activity. In addition, extensive attention has been devoted to new developments in the field of building technology, computer use, and management. The current discourse on planning issues, the network society, problems of integration, increasing individualisation, and the rise of ICT does much to define the research themes treated within its pages.

Summary:
"Museum Studies: An Anthology of Contexts" provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary collection of approaches to museums and their relation to history, culture, philosophy and their adoring or combative publics. This book brings together for the first time a wide array of texts that mix contemporary analysis with historical documentation. It includes five sections that highlight central themes in museum studies: issue-oriented contexts in museology; states of "nature"; the status of nations; history, memory and other locations; and arts, crafts and visitors. It also addresses the development of museums, the role of the museum in society, and issues central to contemporary museum studies opening with an introductory essay that situates museum studies in a truly interdisciplinary context and including an opening essay for each section that guides the reader through the selections. Finally, the anthology includes a bibliography and list of resources devoted to museum studies that makes the volume an authoritative guide on the subject.

How long ago have you been to an exhibition or an event? What information and amusement you get from it? Did you enjoy it? We are thrilled to present you our latest title When Space Meets Art/When Art Meets Space which leads you to taste and feel all sorts of events comprehensively. An exhibition, a party or any kinds of event can encompass all design areas. For many of us who usually focus only on the exhibited items or the subject of events, few of us ever pay attention to the whole design environment. This title will guide you to look and feel it through two key components: spatial design and graphic elements. From 3D to 2D, it demonstrates how structural work including venue setups from exterior to interior makes the whole event outstanding and turn into exceptional eye-catching fascination and how graphic elements from venue decorations to promotional items makes consistency to reflect the whole event concept and affect the affiliation from the exhibited subjects to audience. By that, the title ultimately reveals how these objects affect your sense and blow up your impression to particular events.

Summary:
Harald Szeemann (1933-2005) was one of the most influential curators of the recent past. An entire generation of curators has been inspired by his independent way of creating exhibitions and his emphatic method of presenting contemporary art. In retrospect, Szeemann's infallible interest in artistic loners with strong attitudes and powerful personalities seems like a vehement contradiction of the kind of art market that focuses on trends and movements. This volume describes the "Szeemann principle," the visions of an enlightened artistic curator, and provides an overview of the most important stations of his singular curatorial career: the legendary exhibitions "When Attitudes Become Form" and documenta 5, the great thematic explorations such as "Bachelor Machines" and "Der Hang zum Gesamtkunstwerk," his discovery of the young Eastern European scenes, and the Biennials in Venice, Lyon, and Seville.
