DR1981:0024
Description:
- DR1981:0024 shows a design for what appears to be an ornamental footbridge. No dimensions are given and materials are not indicated, but the structure could not have been erected at a very large scale. The road bed consists of three sections: a central flat section supported on a broad flat arch; and two gently-sloped side sections, each supported on seven small, round-headed arches. The span of the bridge is braced between two sets of double piers. Each of these four piers carries an octagonal kiosk consisting of closed panels below and an open framework above. At the centre of the bridge rises a pavilion formed of sixteen columns on a rectangular plan (six columns on each of the two long sides) supporting a curved gable roof. Above the road bed, the superstructure is decorated with banners, lanterns, fretwork, and inscriptions, all in a style of Chinese derivation.

Project
AP018.S1.1976.PR25
Description:
This project series documents alterations and extensions made to the Toronto Sun building in downtown Toronto in 1976. The office identified the project number as 7633. This project consisted primarily of an extension to the building's press hall and alterations. An addition of approximately 20,000 square feet was proposed to house printing operations on property once occupied by parking. The new space would permit the addition of a new printing press, adding 4 units of press to the existing10 unit press line. Due to the erasure of parking, this project is also heavily concerned with the search for new parking for the building. Parkin Architects Planners had designed and constructed the original Toronto Sun building at 333 King Street East from 1973-1975. The project is recorded through drawings, textual records, photographs and slides dating from 1974-1981. The majority of drawings are of details and are arranged within the textual records. The photographic materials show the building's exterior and masonry. The textual records include correspondence, specifications, meeting and site reports, tender documents, consultancy records, bylaw and building authority records, financial documents, change orders, supplementary instructions, interoffice letters, and contracts. File AP018.S1.1976.PR25.001 contains an index to the textual records, which was created by the office.

Description:
This project series documents alterations to Tudhope Studios located at 284 King Street East in Toronto from 1987-1988. The office identified the project number as 18733. This project, headed by Marianne McKenna, consisted of alterations to the interiors and exterior of a two-storey building, originally constructed in 1947. The building, owned by design firm Tudhope Associates Inc., had approximately 12,758 square feet of space, 19 of which were added on the second floor during the alterations. The building's lower floor was used as a wholesale area, the first floor as offices, and the third floor as design studios and workshops. The interiors used a mix of carpeting, vinyl tiles, epoxy terrazzo and unfinished concrete for the floors. The interior walls were largely painted gypsum board while the exterior facade was masonry and stucco. The project also included the design and construction of furnishings inside the offices, such as signs, lighting fixtures, desks and the boardroom table. The project is recorded through drawings and a photograph of the finished exterior dating from 1987-1988. The drawings are mostly originals and include sketches, plans, elevations, sections, details, perspectives, axonometric and furnishing drawings for design and construction. The detail drawings are for the site, exterior, schedules, interiors, stairs and millwork.
