Summary:
Lebanese-born artist, Huguette Caland (1931–2019) was a path-breaking figure in late modernism. The only daughter of the first Lebanese president, Bechara El Khoury, she produced a singular body of art that spanned media and continents. Working for more than five decades, her art is recognized for its embodied aesthetic and its unique sensuality. In this searching critical biography, author and curator, Omar Kholeif, disentangles the seeming madness, velocity, and the interiority of Caland’s life. Both an epistolary memoir and a biography, Kholeif, interleaves the affective experience of encountering the artist over a period of 18 years, as readers are summoned on a journey through clouds of bristling color. Here, Caland’s fields of light are set to lyric prose and poetry, fashioning a scene for looking at and experiencing the erotics of art anew.

Summary:
« Border Tuner | Sintonizador Fronterizo » documents Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s participatory art installation composed of powerful search-lights forming bridges of light that opened live channels for direct communication across the U.S.-Mexico border. At a time of intense anti-immigrant rhetoric, militarized surveillance, and nationalist violence, the artwork connected the sister cities of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, creating a platform for people to converge along the border to speak to one another and listen across the divide. This volume features extensive documentation of the artwork and its activation by tens of thousands of people who gathered to honor the interdependence of life in the borderlands. The book’s ten essays, presented in both English and Spanish, critically examine the legacy of Lozano-Hemmer’s project within the wider frame of artistic production along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Summary:
This catalog traces German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans' unique 2025 project at the Centre Pompidou, for which he was given a generous carte blanche. The result occupied the entire second floor of the Public Information Library, where Tillmans' experimental installation transformed the space, establishing a dialogue with the former library and questioning it both as architecture and as a locus for the transmission of knowledge. The work explores over 35 years of artistic practice through various photographic genres and constitutes another very personal representation of his universe, whose order and logic are activated in response to the library space. With 600 images, an index of the works alternates with numerous installation shots that show how the artist made this space his own, while a varied selection of essays by a younger generation of authors sheds new light on the various aspects of Tillmans' work.

Summary:
In this intimate archive, the contemporary Mexican photographer duo Lake Verea record their pilgrimages, made over the course of nearly two decades, to the house of Mexican architect Luis Barragán (1902–88). As devotees of the architect, the duo began photographing the modernist mecca in 2006, endeavoring to approach as closely as possible to Barragán's spirit. The artists sat in his chairs, opened his closets, listened in silence and kissed in the house's enchanted garden. Modern Barragán compiles the fruits of their reverent labor. The photographs capture the house across a myriad of atmospheric conditions—in daylight, under the light of the full moon, by streetlight and against stormy skies. Flash photography lends the house a spectral quality; rubbed with aluminum sheets, the walls reveal their hidden textures, evoking the hidden memories contained within the home.

He is the only architect to have won the discipline`s four most prestigious prizes: the Pritzker, Carlsberg, Praemium Imperiale, and Kyoto Prize. His name is Tadao Ando, and he is one of the world`s greatest living architects. Combining influences from Japanese tradition with the best of Modernism, Ando has developed a completely unique building aesthetic that makes use of concrete, wood, water, light, space, and nature in a way that has never been witnessed elsewhere in architecture. Summary:
This concise and beautiful exhibition catalogue features arresting, colorful, Rorschach Test-like photograms of flowers by the Los Angeles-based conceptual photographer James Welling. For this series, Welling placed the blossoms of a common southern California plant on sheets of 8x10 film and exposed them to light. The negatives were then projected onto special photo paper through a color mural enlarger and color filters, to produce the dramatic, spectral, almost sun - or moon - dappled images reproduced here. Currently a professor of fine art at UCLA, Welling studied at CalArts in the early 1970s. Welling was the subject of a midcareer retrospective at the Wexner Center for the Arts in 2000, which traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. He is represented in New York by David Zwirner Gallery and in Los Angeles by Regen Projects.

Summary:
This publication sheds light on the era between 1948 and 1970, when the arrival at Milano Centrale train station not only represented a turning point in the lives of certain young Swiss graphic artists but also became a decisive moment for the history of design. Being cosmopolitan had its difficulties, but it richly rewarded many recent graduates of the famous Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich. Supplied with a type of education that was not available in Italy at the time, Swiss graphic artists encountered an optimistic and undogmatic attitude that was inspiring and new. Italy’s path to a widely admired form of visual communication was marked by a profound transalpine dialogue and earned Milan a reputation as a city for which it was worth leaving behind one’s homeland. The publication includes such icons of the history of poster design as Max Huber and Walter Ballmer.

Reissued in hard cover and with an enlarged trim size, greater prominence is given to the more than 500 drawings and photographs, including a selection never-before published. The addition of a chronology that traces the parallel history of Artek and the Aalto office offers an unprecedented understanding of the many projects they created together. The original text received the 2018 Philip Johnson Award for outstanding exhibition catalogue by the Society of Architectural Historians.

Summary:
How does material culture become data? Why does this matter, and for whom? As the cultures of Indigenous peoples in North America were mined for scientific knowledge, years of organizing, classifying, and cataloguing hardened into accepted categories, naming conventions, and tribal affiliations – much of it wrong. 'Cataloguing Culture' examines how colonialism operates in museum bureaucracies. Using the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History as her reference, Hannah Turner organizes her study by the technologies framing museum work over two hundred years: field records, the ledger, the card catalogue, the punch card, and eventually the database. She examines how categories were applied to ethnographic material culture and became routine throughout federal collecting institutions. As Indigenous communities encounter the documentary traces of imperialism while attempting to reclaim what is theirs, this publication shines a light on access to and return of cultural heritage.
