Summary:
In the 1920s and 30s, Paul Schuitema was one of the pioneers of New Typography and New Photography in the Netherlands, along with Piet Zwart and Gerard Kiljan. They distinguished themselves by conveying the message in a clear, concise and forceful manner. Schuitema himself referred to it as right ahead. In an international context, this typography and photography matched the work of El Lissitzky and Alexander Rodchenko in Russia, Karel Teige and Nadislav Sutnar in the erstwhile Czechoslovakia, and Herbert Bayer, Joost Schmidt and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy in Germany. This book, the first monograph on Paul Schuitema, not only deals with his graphic work, but also with his activities as a photographer, film-maker, and furniture designer.

Summary:
1917: the year a series of rebellions toppled three centuries of autocratic rule and placed a group of political radicals in charge of a world power. Here, suddenly, was the first modern socialist state, '' a kingdom more bright that any heaven had to offer.'' But the dream was short-lived, bringing in its wake seventy years of conflict and instability that nearly ended in nuclear war. How could such a revolution take place and what caused it to go so very wrong? Presenting a uniquely long view of events, Abraham Ascher takes readers from the seeds of revolution in the 1880s right through to Stalin’s state terror and the power of the communist legacy in Russia today.

Summary:
Published in concert with a major exhibition at the CCA in 1995, ''Scenes of the World to Come'' analyses the global structures and thematic strategies according to which American architectural forms and urban models migrated to the Old Continent, bringing the promise of a new architecture and, along with it, the threat of a dissolution of European identity. The text traces the assimilation of American models in the various countries of Europe: in Germany, where the discipline of urban planning was founded; in futurist and fascist Italy; in France, where the Beaux-Arts tradition was profoundly shaken by contact with America; in avant-garde and Stalinist Russia; and in Great Britain after 1945.

Summary:
This book is dedicated to the Soviet Space Dogs, who played a crucial part in the Soviet Space program. These homeless dogs, plucked from the streets of Moscow, were selected because they fitted the program's criteria: weighing no more than 15 pounds, measuring no more than 14 inches in length, robust, photogenic and with a calm temperament. This book contains more than 350 images, almost all of which are previously unpublished, and many of which have never been seen before outside Russia. The rich and varied ephemera (from cigarette packets to sweet wrappers and children's toys) of Soviet graphics will have immense appeal to the art and design market, as well as appealing to dog-lovers everywhere.
