Called Far South, the section observes contemporary architecture and criticism in South America by a generation that Solares calls "equidistant from the modernist ethos of previous generations while also distancing itself from a more radical critical approach that leans toward an ‘anthropologization’ of architecture."

Welcome to the 58th issue of The Funambulist, dedicated to Palestinian Return/Awda/??????. In its original intentions, as defined in the beginning of 2024, this issue was thought to be published long after a ceasefire in Palestine would have been reached. Anticipating a significant decrease in global mobilization for the Palestinian struggle, this issue was meant to contribute to an effort of re-intensifying of this mobilization. In the end, the genocidal siege on Gaza and its echoes in the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria have lasted much longer than any of us could have imagined and this issue was produced in a context of duress and despair for many of its contributors. In our context, this issue attempts to re-open our imaginaries of liberation of Palestine, through essays

Tous ont en ligne de mire l'adaptation de nos sociétés urbaines aux mutations sociales et environnementales du xxie siècle et l'urgente régénération des milieux de vie dégradés.

Summary:
Over the last decade, Copenhagen has undergone a major transformation – not just in its appearance, but in the way the city functions and is experienced by its residents. COBE’s projects are spread out over Copenhagen, but they aren’t cookie-cutter buildings that are placed without meaning or context. Each structure is highly aware of what the local markers mean in a globalised world. What unites them is the architects’ desire to achieve a more sustainable, socially inviting urban environment for city residents. This monograph speaks to all those who live and work in cities, with contributions ranging from established architects and architecture critics to the those in municipal and urban planning roles and the residents themselves.

The focus of this large book is an 18th century Dutch cabinet from the Rijksmuseum’s furniture collection. This cabinet houses a collection of curiosities including a mini-apothecary’s shop filled with over 300 jars, pots, and bottles containing medicines. Concealed behind the rear wall of the cabinet, 55 secret drawers reveal a varied collection of over 2,000 naturalia specimens – including seeds, flowers, roots, resins, ores, and a great deal more. The cabinet was probably owned by a wealthy doctor or pharmacist and its contents were intended as a curiosity, for the amusement of a select group of friends. 21st century readers will be equally impressed by this exceptional Dutch collector’s cabinet.

Its construction was supported by the municipality in order to provide headquarters for the principal associations involved in keeping alive the memory of the Resistance, the Liberation, and the foundation of the Italian Republic. Comprising essays and numerous architectural drawings, plus photographs by Stefano Graziani, this book describes in detail how a public work was funded using resources deriving from an urban intervention of a private nature while respecting both history and context, and developed and realised through a participatory approach.

Summary:
The contributors to this volume, devoted entirely to Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion of 1929, address here for the first time the forgotten contexts of the Pavilion’s genesis. Habitually thought of as an abstract, unpolluted, and splendidly isolated building—a precursor of Mies’s American period—the Pavilion is revealed here as a thoroughly European work, perhaps less pristine but more authentic. Mies and Lilly Reich were commissioned to design not only the Pavilion but also more than one hundred thousand square feet of German stands spread throughout the Exposition. By examining that work in addition to the Pavilion itself, the contributors present a far-reaching reinterpretation of the whole. They also explore connections with the mass media, highlight the work’s antecedents and meaning in the history of architecture, and analyze the current pavilion, a reconstruction of the original built in 1986.
