Summary:
This volume introduces the architecture of Kazunari Sakamoto through drawings, photographs, and text, yet does this using a special mixture of variously sized images made by both professionals and amateurs. Some were taken directly following a building’s completion, while others were made decades later; some are in colour, others are black and white. Texts by the editor are interspersed with fragments of the architect’s own words describing the architecture, the criticisms of others, and analysis from the period when a particular project was built. In this way the book’s format acts in concert with that of Sakamoto’s architecture, a coexistence and diversity of relationships.

No.6. John Bevis’s definitive study of the pioneering natural history photographers "The Keartons : inventing nature photography", illustrated throughout with their original images. The first essay in this issue, by Angus Carlyle, reflects on the sequence of one hundred short runs that comprise "A downland index", which will be out in early summer. Other projects in progress include a new book in collaboration with geographers Hannah Neate and Ruth Craggs which will highlight the diversity of current responses to modernist architecture; a survey of the work of Michael Gibbs whose activities included poetry, performance, film, and publishing, and his immersion in what he called “a genuinely ‘underground’ culture… which owed nothing to the official art establishment”; and a book with the sound poet and performance artist Nathan Walker from his residency in June at the Armitt Museum in Cumbria.

Summary:
"SANAA. Sejima & Nishizawa. 1990-2017" gathers the complete oeuvre of Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa over almost three decades of work of the three studios they lead in Tokyo, and that has produced prominent buildings like the Zollverein School of Design in Essen, the Rolex Center in Lausanne, the Louvre-Lens Museum, or their recent center for the Grace Farms Foundation in Connecticut. With articles by Luis Fernández-Galiano and the architects themselves, this monograph examines the principles and methods behind the seeming simplicity of the work of the two Japanese architects, and unveils the keys to the radicalness of their architecture, extremely light and immaterial.

Summary:

Summary:
One of the difficulties about reexamining the subject of realism lies in the passage from the initial idea of magical realism to the concept of new objectivity. Actually it is possible to return to the initial notion, elaborating the concept of marvelous reality which with that idea of a mixture of the real and the fantastic seeks to maintain something of the heroic and the sublime. The realistic way of preserving the sublime that, in defiance of the 'real' world, succeeds in living that illusion: this is the direction in which we want to interpret the symptoms of a return of the real in architecture. In short magical realism does not make us long for normality, but invites us to look beyond every norm hidden by conventions.
