CI005.S1.1922.PR1
Description:
The city of Rotterdam in May 1922 commissioned a project to re-house homeless slum-dwellers and to alleviate Rotterdam's crisis in housing shortage: the housing unit was known as The Witte Dorp housing community, in the polder of Oud-Mathenesse. Oud designed the site plan and dwellings for this municipal housing project of 343 dwellings, eight shop units and a fire-engine shed. Oud created a geometric street plan with short axes that joined at the playground and townscape with identical facades of row houses facing one another. The houses were white with contrasting red roofs, blue front doors and yellow door frames and window casings (Taverne et al. 2001, 250). Project series includes drawings of plans and eighteen photographs, including exterior views and photographs of a plan.

Description:
This project series documents Pettena's installation entitled "Milite Ignoto". This project is the second of a series of three installations created in 1968 which consisted of large three-dimensional letters, forming words, and made of perishable materials that slowly disintegrated once exposed to the elements. The words "Milite Ignoto" of this installation refers to "another stereotype, typical of hypocritical rhetoric and the ceremonies staged by politicians and generals." [1] This installation was presented outside the Palazzo dei Diamanti, in Ferrara. The project series contains installation photographs of the finished project at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a drawing of the installation, photographs of a later model of the cardboard word, and project descriptions in English and in Italian. Mother Nature (2012)
AP207.S1.2012.PR01
Description:
The project series documents the digitally created installation "Mother Nature" by Pettena in 2011. The project consists of a photograph of a rock formation on the edge of the water which was digitally modified to include a human figure nested in. "What is presented here in an almost didactic manner, by inserting a human figure into a setting prepared by nature, is the natural imbalance between the former and the infinite potentialities of the environment, which can only be known in part by someone who, accepting this situation of inferiority, makes use of it to acquire the capacity for a more conscious observation." [1] The project series contains drawings and photographs of the installation.
