Summary:
Since the late 20th century, political regulations, internationalisation, and rapid digitalisation are only a few factors that have significantly transformed the environments within which European institutions of architectural education operate. In adapting and adhering to such changes, schools of architecture strive to develop innovative, didactic, programmatic, or spatial models that are distinguishable. Through eighteen case studies, four of which are presented in detail, this book highlights tendencies in architectural education beyond academia, illustrating the interdependence between the educational model and its spatial disposition, and revealing potential new schools of thought.

Summary:
"Elements of Architecture" focuses on the fragments of the rich and complex architectural collage. Window, façade, balcony, corridor, fireplace, stair, escalator, elevator: the book seeks to excavate the micro-narratives of building detail. The result is no single history, but rather the web of origins, contaminations, similarities, and differences in architectural evolution, including the influence of technological advances, climatic adaptation, political calculation, economic contexts, regulatory requirements, and new digital opportunities. It’s a guide that is long overdue—in Koolhaas’s own words, “Never was a book more relevant—at a moment where architecture as we know it is changing beyond recognition.” Derived, updated, and expanded from Koolhaas's exhaustive and much-lauded exhibition at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, this is an essential toolkit to understanding the fundamentals that comprise structure around the globe. Designed by Irma Boom and based on research from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the 2,600-page monograph contains essays from Rem Koolhaas, Stephan Trueby, Manfredo di Robilant, and Jeffrey Inaba; interviews with Werner Sobek and Tony Fadell (of Nest); and an exclusive photo essay by Wolfgang Tillmans.

Summary:
The Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London is one of the world’s leading schools of architecture, with a substantial impact and presence worldwide. "Bartlett Works" covers the major achievements of former Bartlett architecture students and current staff, celebrating the diversity of different types of architectural activity and exploring the role of the architect generally and in specific aspects of architectural practice, the construction industry, academia and public discourse. "Bartlett Works" explores the links between education and practice and brings together such disparate work as building design, architectural education, film direction, furniture design, architectural journalism, history and theory, arts and architecture policy formulation, video production and website design. Emphasis is placed on recently completed projects and work-in-progress. This book is a useful guide for anyone interested in pursuing a career in architecture or in the subject generally. Contributors include Foster & Partners, Softroom, Ushida Findlay, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, David Chipperfield Architects, Block Architecture and filmmaker Patrick Keiller.
