Summary:
"Living systems" surveys a wide array of innovative approaches to material technologies within the field of landscape architecture. The selected projects and materials exhibit a contemporary demand for technological landscapes and the collaboration between designers, engineers, scientists and ecologists. The book redefines the conventional boundaries of landscape materiality by focusing on growth, flow, metabolism, climate, and atmospheric phenomena. Projects and materials are cross-referenced according to performance criteria, processes, and properties. Each of the 36 international projects and 23 material technologies is presented with drawing details, construction photographs and an analysis of the various complex systems featured, such as vertical growth structures, flood prevention, stormwater infiltration, erosion control, and the integration of digital media. Projects featured include works by West8, GROSS.MAX, Weiss-Manfredi Architects, Field Operations, Kathryn Gustafson, and Vogt Landschaftarchitekten.

Summary:
This is the first study of Renaissance architecture as an immersive, multisensory experience that combines historical analysis with the evidence of first-hand accounts. Questioning the universalizing claims of contemporary architectural phenomenologists, David Karmon emphasizes the infinite variety of meanings produced through human interactions with the built environment. His book draws upon the close study of literary and visual sources to prove that early modern audiences paid sustained attention to the multisensory experience of the buildings and cities in which they lived. Through reconstructing the Renaissance understanding of the senses, we can better gauge how constant interaction with the built environment shaped daily practices and contributed to new forms of understanding.'' Architecture and the senses in the Italian Renaissance'' offers a stimulating new approach to the study of Renaissance architecture and urbanism as a kind of ''experiential trigger'' that shaped ways of both thinking and being in the world.

Summary:
Combining civic architecture projects with contributions by writers, historians and artists ranging from Dan Graham to Fran Lebowitz, this publication constructs a dialogue with the legacy of the late architect and longtime Cooper Union professor Diane Lewis (1951-2017). Lewis' pedagogy defined Cooper Union's architecture departure from the 1970s to the mid-2000s. Here, architectural historians Barry Bergdoll and Daniel Sherer converse about the themes and approach in her pedagogical style and thinking. Architects, former students, colleagues and friends generate projects as a continuous discourse with Lewis' pedagogy, carrying her legacy into contemporary dialogues.

Summary:
This fifth volume in Lars Müller’s Architect’s Studio series is dedicated to the Nairobi-based architects Cave_bureau. This acclaimed collective of architects and researchers-- the first Kenyan firm to appear at the Venice Architecture Biennale, in 2021-- explores the synergy between architecture, urbanism and nature, and curates performative events of resistance within caves along the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. The cave, as physical space and as metaphor, is seen by the collective as a provocation to test the limits of contemporary architecture. Here, Cave_bureau’s Stella Mutegi and Kabage Karanja describe eight of their projects. Photographs are accompanied by essays posing questions about the future of architecture in the age of the Anthropocene, the effects of colonial extraction and erasure on African architecture, as well as the specificity of each continent and each geographic space.
