Summary:
For too long, representations of climate action in the mainstream media have been white-washed, green-washed and diluted to be made compatible with capitalism. In ''It’s Not That Radical'', Loach addresses head-on the issues at the root of the climate crisis. As Loach shows, we are living in an economic system which pursues profit above all else; harmful, oppressive systems that heavily contribute to the climate crisis, and environmental consequences that have been toned down to the masses. Tackling the climate crisis requires us to visit the roots of poverty, capitalist exploitation, police brutality, and legal injustice. Climate justice offers the real possibility of huge leaps towards racial equality and collective liberation as it aims to dismantle the very foundations of these issues.

Summary:
Beginning in the late 1950s and continuing to the 1980s, the independence period in Africa was a time of prolific—and thrilling—architectural production, during which leaders of newly independent nations sought to redefine themselves and their countries in contrast to colonial rule. "Architects of liberation: Modernism in Western Africa" focuses on seven western African nations—Benin (Dahomey), Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo—and illuminates the ways in which architects sought to adapt, adopt or reinvent the idiom of modernism for their specific cultural, political and economic purposes. This landmark publication features more than 200 illustrations, including architectural drawings and archival photographs, as well as a newly commissioned photographic portfolio by François-Xavier Gbré highlighting these stunning works of architecture.

Summary:
Freitag bags have been an overwhelming success in the struggle between brands. This "messenger Bag" created by the Swiss bothers Daniel and Markus Freitag has become an urban cult product. The bags originate in an ironc and ecologically critical approach: the bags are cut from used lorry tarpaulins and tailor-made on a small scale with used bicycle inner tubes and safety belts. This publication describes the history of the product and asks questions about economic, ecological, and sociocultural contexts, espressing the aesthetics of a generation that is as vain as it is critical of consumerism. The book's spine is made of the same type of lorry tarpaulin as is used for the bags, thus each book's spine is unique.

Summary:
Consumption stands at the intersection of different spheres of everyday life : between the public and the private, the political and the personal, the individual and the social. It is considered to be a means and motor of social change; as an active ingredient in the construction of space and place, and in constructing subjectivity and social selfhood. Providing a critical review of the ways in which urban development has been conceptualized, "Cities and Consumption" critiques urban regeneration initiatives, examines ordinary and spectacular consumption and describes the relationship between consumption and development of the modern and post-modern city. Consumption is understood to have multiple roles as a political, economic and cultural touchstone, and to be an active ingredient in the construction of place and space.

The extent to which economic value is placed on knowledge today forces us to reconsider its social role and our relation to it. Research, the general category for processes of knowledge production, has become omnipresent in both education and practice. Today it’s not so important what you know but rather how you think. Progress, in this sense, is predicated by critical reflection on ways of knowing and disciplinary traditions of thought. This issue of Volume – the second in our series on learning – is dedicated to mapping the contemporary field of research in architecture, art and the social sciences. We wanted to learn from those who have been instrumental in shifting the boundaries and shaping today’s landscape of creative knowledge production.

Summary:
Ever since Slovenia joined the European Union in 2004, Slovenian architecture has attracted considerable interest worldwide. The internationally recognized projects of recent years are distinguished in particular by their innovativeness and self-assured originality. School construction, which has been a priority in Slovenia for decades, has acquired special significance as a result of the country's economic upswing. The school buildings presented in the publication "Contemporary School Architecture in Slovenia" were all constructed after 1991, following the establishment of the Republic of Slovenia. In addition to the introduction by the two authors Maja Ivanic and Spela Kuhar, the book includes interviews on the subject with 8 architects. The historical perspective is conveyed in 6 essays, and the 35 documented projects are presented in pictures, diagrams and textual descriptions.
