Summary:
The question of the horizon, one of the recurring themes in the work of Dutch conceptualist Jan Dibbets, returns in this exhibition catalog from the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Hague. In this poetic and clever new work, using the photographic image in an almost geometric collage, Dibbets takes two photographs, a landscape and a seascape, and repeatedly juxtaposes them in various ways that divide the horizon. Coming out of the 1970s European conceptual art movement, Dibbets is a major figure in Dutch art and on the international scene.

Summary:
Preserved buildings and historic districts, museums and reconstructions have become an important part of the landscape of cities around the world. Beginning in the 1970s, Tokyo participated in this trend. However, repeated destruction and rapid redevelopment left the city with little building stock of recognized historical value. Late twentieth-century Tokyo thus presents an illuminating case of the emergence of a new sense of history in the city’s physical environment, since it required both a shift in perceptions of value and a search for history in the margins and interstices of a rapidly modernizing cityscape.

Summary:
Power Struggles: Hydro Development and First Nations in Manitoba and Québec examines the evolution of new agreements between First Nations and Inuit and the hydro corporations in Quebec and Manitoba, including the Wuskwatim Dam Project, Paix des Braves, and the Great Whale Project. In the 1970s, both provinces signed so-called "modern treaties" with First Nations for the development of large hydro projects in Aboriginal territories. In recent times, however, the two provinces have diverged in their implementation, and public opinion of these agreements has ranged from celebratory to outrage.

Summary:
It has been argued, most notably in psychoanalytic and modernist art discourse, that the production of works of art is fundamentally driven by sexual desire. It has been further argued, particularly since the early 1970s, that sexual drives and desires also condition the distribution, display and reception of art. This anthology traces how and why this identification of art with sexual expression or repression arose and how the terms have shifted in tandem with artistic and theoretical debates, from the era of the rights movements to the present.
