Summary:
Twelve years ago, Nazraeli Press published Toshio Shibata's Landscape, the artist's first Western monograph and one which sold out upon publication. In the interim, Shibata has moved to large-format color photography, maintaining as his subject the spectacular, anti-erosion engineering structures so prevelant in the mountainous inland regions of Japan and parts of the United States. Like its predecessor, Landscape 2 is printed in a first edition of 1,000 hand-numbered copies. This important new monograph spans five years of output, featuring 84 of the artist s most powerful recent imagery. Toshio Shibata is one of Japan s most respected contemporary photographers. His work has been the subject of exhibitions and publications throughout Japan, the United States, and Europe, and is included in such public collections as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Landscape 2 is beautifully printed in an oversized format on heavy matte paper, and bound in Japanese cloth.

Super Potato Design is the first full-length book to present the built work and conceptual ideas of the internationally renowned Japanese design firm Super Potato, founded by Takashi Sugimoto. Super Potato's powerful designs for the interiors of restaurants, shops and hotels, as well as Takashi Sugimoto's designs for tea ceremony spaces and utensils, are richly complex compositions of materials which create simple, strong spaces. By finding contemporary expression for important concepts present in traditional Japan and combining materials in unexpected ways to create exciting spaces, Super Potato's work has had a significant impact on interior design in Japan and around the world.

Summary:
The New Photography in Japan, influenced by Germany’s ‘Neue Sachlichkeit’, the New Objectivity, and surrealism, differed strikingly from the pictorialism that had been the leading form of art photography prior to 1930. ‘Koga’ was a small-press magazine that remained in print for less than two years, yet featured a number of amateur photographers, largely from the Kansai region, who became a driving force behind the New Photography movement. The catalogue for an exhibition featuring photographs printed in ‘Koga’, this publication examines the influence of foreign photographers on the New Photography and subsequent modes of photographic expression in Japan.

Summary:
This is a publication about seeing versus not seeing, about gender, class and climate, a work about representation and reproduction. In short, a vehicle for perception and togetherness. After leaving an artist in residence in Japan spring 2019 and being back in Amsterdam Markus felt the need for silence and contemplation. Intuitively she built a studio setting in the forest and a photographic process began. It started with a found tarpaulin; the same kind of blue tarp that is a common sight in Japan and if one looks closer most often a shelter for someone homeless appears.

Summary:
This book accompanies the exhibition on Horino Masao at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. A primary figure in Japan’s ‘New Photography’ movement, he is considered “essential to any consideration of the formation of modern photography in Japan.” Active prior to World War II, Horino Masao addressed a variety of subjects, from theatre photographs and portraits to photomontage experiments, and later, the social realities of Japan as a photojournalist. With an emphasis on his work during the 1930s, the book presents an extensive view of the history of Japanese photography through the prodigious and exhaustive lens of one man.
