Summary:
Diener & Diener Architects, based in Basel and Berlin, is one of Switzerland’s leading architecture firms. Over the past forty years, it has maintained a consistent focus on residential architecture. Even before the foundation of Diener & Diener Architects proper, Roger Diener’s father, Marcus Diener, laid the roots for the firm’s specialization on housing, and today, Diener & Diener is known for designs in this field with sparingly used simple patterns, typologies, and materials. ''Diener & Diener Architects : housing'' discusses thirty designs exemplifying the firm’s philosophy—a philosophy that considers the individual urban contexts for each building structure. The book features photographs, floor and site plans, as well as images and plans from the firm’s archive. Drawing also on Roger Diener’s collected lectures, the texts investigate Diener & Diener’s own typological design process, which serves as the foundation for each project. By so doing, they give insight into Diener & Diener’s long-standing success and their significance in the field of contemporary housing architecture.

Summary:
This first book in Dongola’s Architecture Series, a platform to publish multi-layered readings of conversations with Arab architects working across the region's contemporary landscapes. Ammar Khammash’s work in building, painting, sculpture and music, together with his social, geological and botanical research break and intersect with every possible disciplinary mold in favor of an ongoing momentum of production and dissemination of knowledge. His practice is an act of mutual formation, an ongoing collaboration between himself and nature, which is, in his regard, the only real architect. Rather than package the practice, this book aims to reveal associations, untangle connections, and trace wandering threads. In exploring these various processes of formation – material, intellectual, and otherwise – this book works to offer a reading of architecture that draws on experimentation, context sensitivity and cultural introspection as main foundations.

This bilingual French-English publication retraces the "Visible, Invisible" exhibition, curated by Nicolas Dorval-Bory and Guillaume Ramillien, held in 2022 at the Versailles School of Architecture, as part of the second edition of the Île-de-France Architecture and Landscape Biennale (BAP!2). In the image of the eponymous exhibition, the editorial project presents a series of inspiring opportunities, via the display and analysis of international contemporary practices, aiming to rethink the act of inhabiting the world in the era of the Anthropocene and the crises that are shaking it. These recent reflections draw upon architectural experimentation from the 1960s, symbols of an ecological awakening within the discipline and a reassessment of the precepts of Modernism. "In the face of ecological emergency, how can new architectural forms emerge from locally available materials and energy?"

Summary:
Sir John Vanbrugh (1664-1726) was by turns businessman, soldier, playwright, herald and architect of some of the most important country houses of his era. In this book architectural historian Vaughan Hart draws on these diverse interests to examine afresh Vanbrugh's surviving, destroyed and unrealised buildings as well as the designs he executed in collaboration with Nicholas Hawksmoor. It was the fate of Vanbrugh's buildings to be at first maligned and then misunderstood. Hart outlines the contemporary political and social events which influenced the architect and shows how his strikingly original houses, such as those as Seaton Delaval and Grimsthorpe, can be interpreted through reference to classical mythology, renaissance fortifications and medieval houses. Vaughan Hart is Professor of Architecture in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath.
