Summary:
Following the 1968 earthquake in Sicily, plans were produced for the total reconstruction of the destroyed town of Gibellina, inspired by the models of the English New Towns. After an initial phase in which international architects and artists participated in the urban redesign, in the late 1970s a series of seminars and workshops was held at the University of Palermo to take stock of the reconstruction. Oswald Mathias Ungers (1926–2007) was then called to design the town’s central area, which was still undefined. His Civic Centre proposal reflected on the relationship between built and public space, and between city, monument, and history. Ultimately, however, little was realized.

''Seventeen Playgrounds'' is a research project by Denisa Kollarová and Anna van Lingen on the work of the Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck (1918–1999), who designed hundreds of playgrounds in Amsterdam between the 1950s and 1970s. These playgrounds, characterised by simple metal structures and concrete elements, enabled children to develop autonomy and creativity through play. The research began as a mapping of the few surviving sites still present in Amsterdam’s cityscape, developed within the Graphic Design course at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, and was first published by Lecturis (NL) in 2015. This second edition is co-published with the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Technical University of Brno (CZ).

Summary:
Evan Renaudie presents a photographic book that can be seen as a sensitive walk through an iconic architectural project, enhanced by testimonies from different generations. A kind of “family album”, alternating between archival documents and photographs taken by the author, it explores daily life in the atypical social housing that makes the heart of Ivry-sur-Seine so special. Renaudie offers an embodied, intimate vision of how the utopia of the 1970s is seen, 50 years on. In addition, it presents the view of a daughter, son, and grandson on the production of their father, mother, and grandfather, but then confronted with the perspective of the inhabitants and a photographer.

Summary:
Independent publishing, art publishing, publishing as artistic practice, publishing counterculture, and the zine, DIY, and POD scenes have proliferated over the last two decades. So too have art book fairs, an increasingly important venue?or even medium?for art. Art publishing experienced a similar boom in the 1960s and 1970s, in response to the culture's "linguistic turn." Today, art publishing confronts the internet and the avalanche of language and images that it enables. The printed book offers artists both visibility and tangibility. "Publishing Manifestos" gathers texts by artists, authors, editors, publishers, designers, zinesters, and activists to explore this rapidly expanding terrain for art practice.

Summary:
Published to coincide with an exhibition at Musee de l'Elysee in autumn 2019 and generously illustrated, 'Jan Groover, Photographer: Laboratory of Forms' traces the artist's career from the beginnings in America to her late years in western France. Having started her career as a painter, when she turned to photography in the 1970s she developed a distinct artistic attitude that saw her amalgamate the disciplines of photography and painting. She was especially known for her carefully composed photographic still-lifes. Essays on her life and work, her significance as an artist, alongside a very personal contribution by her husband, French artist and critic Bruce Boice, complement the images.

Summary:
Edited and published by the Dutch artist Jacqueline de Jong between 1962 and 1967, ''The Situationist Times'' was an exuberant, multilingual, transdisciplinary magazine that became one of the most exciting and playful publications of the 1960s. Throughout its six diverse issues, the magazine challenged the notion of what it meant to be a situationist. Contributors included Aldo Van Eyck, Asger Jorn, Max Bucaille, Pierre Alechinsky and Boris Vian; themes included ''situlogical'' patterns, labyrinths and topology. ''These Are Situationist Times!'' provides a history of the magazine, also probing its contemporary relevance and presenting the material de Jong assembled in the early 1970s for a never-realized seventh issue devoted to pinball.

Summary:
Situation—a unique set of conditions produced in both space and time and ranging across material, social, political, and economic relations—has become a key concept in twenty-first-century art. Rooted in artistic practices of the 1960s and 1970s, the idea of situation has evolved and transcended these in the current context of globalization. This anthology offers key writings on areas of art practice and theory related to situation, including notions of the site specific, the artist as ethnographer or fieldworker, the relation between action and public space, the meaning of place and locality, and the crucial role of the curator in recent situation specific art.
