Summary:
The Serpentine Gallery has commissioned Olafur Eliasson and architect Kjetil Thorsen to design its Pavilion in 2007. Based on the principle of a winding ramp, the Pavilion explores the idea of vertical circulation within a single space. “Our collaboration on the Serpentine Pavilion 2007 is defined by our mutual focus on the experience of space and on temporality as a constitutive element of spaces, private or public. We both work within a field of spatial experimentation that renders conceptual differences between art and architecture superfluous.” The publication comprises extensive visual material documenting the development and realisation of the pavilion; two essays by Doreen Massey, Professor of Geography at The Open University (UK), and Andreas Ruby, architecture critic; a conversation between Olafur Eliasson, Kjetil Thorsen, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Julia Peyton-Jones (Co-directors, Serpentine Gallery).

Summary:
The squatting movement in the Netherlands has played a major role in the design of both the urban fabric and domestic interior, and continues to offer alternatives to the dominant, market-oriented housing policies. This book acknowledges squatting as an architectural practice, analysing six locations through drawings, interviews, and archival material to create a record of past and current struggles, spaces, and oral histories, thereby forming the basis for a new governmental acquisition policy. It brings together the expertise of the squatting movement with architects, archivists, scholars, and lawyers in order to discuss approaches to what are often criminalised spatial practices.

Summary:
"Substance over Spectacle" presents the best and brightest architectural work in Canada in the last ten years, providing a representative sample of Canadian architectural practice since the early nineties, and demonstrating a specific Canadian sensibility that is unlike any architectural trend elsewhere in the world. The book also explores issues of viability, sustainability, community, and utility as they relate to the Canadian architectural experience. Included is the work of twenty-five architects from every area of the country, each represented by an installation of their own design and construction. In addition to photographs of the finished projects, "Substance over Spectacle" also features images of models and architectural drawings, together with analytical/critical text demonstrating the architectural ideas embedded in the work. Five essays deal with different aspects of contemporary Canadian architecture, written by some of Canada’s leading thinkers on architecture: George Baird, Sherry McKay, Marco Polo, Georges Adamczyk, and Andrew Gruft. Publication of the book coincides with an exhibition of the same name mounted by the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery at the University of British Columbia, in April 2005, during the international conference of the Society of Architectural Historians, which is taking place at UBC. "Substance over Spectacle", the first national critical overview of Canadian architecture in some eighteen years, offers fresh new perspectives on how our architecture defines us as we approach the first mid-decade of the new century.

Summary:
Interspace investigates the spatial and social consequences of a data-driven society where personalised information flows produce a multitude of personalised readings of the collective sphere and thus, the role of public space is to be questioned. Accompanied by a new understanding about authorship and new techniques of design, this participatory model calls out for new ways of organising spaces. With regard to the changes that the last substantial structural transformation of the public – web 2.0 – has brought along in architecture, Interspace analyses what has architecture got to do with big data and what is the architects’ role at the time when their expertise is being challenged by digital technologies.
