Summary:
Dobrovic in Dubrovnik traces the history of a project of avant-garde modern architecture constructed in the 1930s in the Mediterranean landscape of the south Dalmatian coast of the Adriatic Sea. Architects Krunoslav Ivaniin and Ljiljana Blagojevic contribute comprehensive historical, theoretical and phenomenological readings of a highly specific venture in modern architecture (though with the usual universal aspirations)--the quintessentially modern villas, gardens and hotels built in Dubrovnik 70 years ago by the Serbian architect and urban planner Nikola Dobrovic (1897-1967). Confined to an area of about ten square miles and in use for only about ten years, the buildings are presented in this volume through previously unpublished original design drawings, black-and-white photographs from the 1930s and contemporary color photographs by Wolfgang Thaler.

In 2003, famous Italian photographer Guido Guidi created a series documenting a selection buildings by Le Corbusier in France. The project is collected in this publication, showing a wide range of photographs never published before. Guido Guidi (b. 1941 in Cesena, Italy) has been pioneering Italian landscape and architectural photography for more than half a century. This series is a prime example of appreciation of ''constructed landscapes.'' In what became a very personal project for the artist, he chose some of Le Corbusier's less well known edifices: the Maison la Roche (completed in 1925), the Maison Planeix (1928), the Villa Savoye (1931), the French Salvation Army's Cité de Refuge (1933), and the factory building Usine Duval (1951).

GEO- Earth- is a word that simultaneously signifies something vast and elemental. It refers to both the planet on which we live and the soil that sustains us. GEO is the physical and representational bedrock of landscape architecture- the foundation of many disciplines from which we draw our knowledge. Geography, Geology, and Geometry, in particular, are fundamental to our discipline’s intellectual core. And now, we seem ever more entangled in GEO as some scholars across the sciences and humanities argue that humans should be recognized as agents of change at geologic time scales.

Risk is many things. It can invoke fun, temptation, or danger; it can be laced with uncertainty, fear, or hope. But most importantly for the design professions, risk is the engine of art and innovation. Complicating the risks inherent in every act of environmental design are two now dominant threats to humanity: climate change and social inequality, both of which are expected to make Earth a more volatile, dystopian planet. Risk reduction - under the rubric of resilience - is the new paradigm for landscape architecture and urbanism.

Summary:
From monumental industrial architecture to the interiors of strange machines, the photographs of Carlo Valsecchi alternate between precise figuration and poetic abstraction. Devoid of human presence, these large-format images often adopt unexpected vantage points, which initially destabilize our perception and then encourage us to engage more actively with the image. Although much of his work clearly occupies the strong tradition of the industrial landscape developed by the German school (Becher, Gursky), Valsecchi inhabits his own expressive register, with a soft palette and nuanced chromatic scale.

Summary:
Bogdan Bogdanovic (1922–2010) was a Yugoslav architect, theorist, professor and a one-time mayor of Belgrade. His idiosyncratic memorials to the victims and heroes of World War II, scattered around the former Yugoslavia, continue to attract attention today, more than 25 years after the country’s collapse. The monuments, cemeteries, mausoleums, memorial parks, necropolises, cenotaphs and other sites of memory Bogdanovic designed between the early 1950s and late 1970s occupy a unique place in the history of modern architecture, redrawing the boundaries between architecture, landscape and sculpture in varied and unexpected ways. This book presents Bogdanovic’s built oeuvre through his own eyes, in a selection of nearly 50 color photographs of his memorials, which the architect took soon after the completion of each project.

Summary:
Whereas it is possible to buy handbooks and publications that describe the functions of specific CAD programs, what is lacking is a general survey of the basic principles of CAD. Many tips and tricks would be particularly helpful for CAD beginners, keeping them from making basic mistakes that require time-consuming corrections. This is the gap that the Basics student series intends to fill with Basics CAD, which provides a fundamental understanding of the functions, processes and structures that all programs share. Basics CAD targets first-year students in disciplines such as architecture, engineering, landscape design and interior architecture, as well as trainees in the fields of construction drawing and technical drawing who will work with CAD programs in their later professional environments.» Bert Bielefeld, Foreword
