The envelopes were all manually crafted using printing ink and a spoon to create the pattern. They were printed during his military service, when he was stationed in the drawing room of the Welfare Service at the Prins Hendrik Barracks. Among other things, there he was tasked with designing a poster titled “Don’t croak about military service matters, the enemy is listening”.

With full-color images, we learn that flower arranging is not an obscure art but a natural gesture requiring more care and imagination than money. Munari's examples are not to be copied slavishly; they represent examples to aid the reader in uncovering their own natural aesthetic sensibilities.
Amber Husain: Meat love

Summary:
In an era of climate catastrophe and corporate agribusiness, meat has been decisively made over. Urbanites across the West are called upon to look at the animals we eat, and by looking, learn to treat them with love. Summary:
In an era of climate catastrophe and corporate agribusiness, meat has been decisively made over. Urbanites across the West are called upon to look at the animals we eat, and by looking, learn to treat them with love. We are asked to tenderise our carnal desire for flesh and dignify our relationship with the land. Yet can our appetite for meat be redeemed by this new way of seeing? Can an ‘ethical’ approach to the farming, sale, and consumption of meat really save both the planet and our souls? In ''Meat love'', Amber Husain deconstructs the beauty, tragedy, and mystery with which our images of meat are embellished, drawing on a range of visual sources from contemporary art and film to Instagram and advertising. Probing the nature of ‘love’ in contemporary human-animal relations, this illustrated essay casts a materialist’s critical eye on the visual culture of meat as it gentrifies and mutates, informing, for better or for worse, our political imaginations.

Summary:
Every designer has a favorite typeface. More than a vehicle to transport words onto a page, a typeface can express taste, style, opinion, and attitude. The typeface a designer uses — and how he has manipulated it — reveals the personality and aesthetic of the designer himself. Using a selection of high-quality graphic design work for books, promotional materials, signage and more, each book in the I Love Type series highlights a single typeface and its prevalence in the design community. This narrow focus lends itself to an in-depth study of each typeface — how the same font can be altered to create different moods and generate an entirely original effect. One of the most used sans serif typefaces, Futura is synonymous with efficiency and modernity, with its clean, even strokes, geometric shapes and lack of decorative flourishes.
