Its director, Willem van Ast, felt the need to do so, as his firm owes its very existence to commissioning designers from outside, something it has done since the 1970s. The project has acted as a perfect mirror for Arco itself in the shape of interesting and valuable designs, as well as eliciting a range of clear signatures from twelve talented Dutch designers, most of whom now enjoy a solid reputation on the international platform.
