Summary:
The present renewal of garden art demands a new approach to garden aesthetics. This book considers exceptional creations around the world and proposes new forms of garden experience. Using a variety of critical perspectives, the authors demonstrate a renewal of garden design and new directions for garden aesthetics, analyzing projects by Fernando Chacel (Brazil), Andy Goldsworthy (Great Britain), Charles Jencks (Great Britain), Patricia Johanson (U.S.), Dieter Kienast (Switzerland), Bernard Lassus (France), and Mohammed Shaheer (India). The first half of the volume begins with an argument for a return to John Dewey's focus on "Art as Experience", while the second half concludes with a debate on the respective roles of cognition and the senses, and of science and the visual arts.

Summary:
This publication presents Rahul Mehrotra’s writings over the last thirty years and illustrates his long-term engagement with and analysis of urbanism in India. This work has given rise to a new conceptualization of the city. Mehrotra calls it the Kinetic City, which is the counterpoint to the Static City, as familiar to most of us from conventional city maps. He argues that the city should instead be perceived, read, and mapped in terms of patterns of occupation and associative values attributed to space. The framework is established in this publication by Rahul Mehrotra’s anchor essay, which draws out its potential to “allow a better understanding of the blurred lines of contemporary urbanism and the changing roles of people and spaces in urban society.”

Summary:
This book presents the untold stories of the people, politics, and production chains behind architecture, real estate, and construction in areas surrounding New Delhi, India. The personal histories of those in India's large laboring classes are brought to life as Namita Vijay Dharia discusses the aggressive environmental and ecological metamorphosis of the region in the twenty-first century. Urban planning and architecture are messy processes that intertwine migratory pathways, corruption politics, labor struggle, ecological transformations, and technological development. Rampant construction activity produces an atmosphere of ephemerality in urban regions, creating an aesthetic condition that supports industrial political economy. Dharia's brilliant analysis of the sensibilities and experiences of work lends visibility to the struggle of workers in an era of growing urban inequality.

Summary:
A growing, living house, a building made of a plant seems to be a contradiction in terms. Nevertheless, the Khasi in eastern India already knew how to connect the roots of rubber trees to form footbridges, and in southern Germany dance linden trees formed the centre of villages for centuries. Following on from this, the new discipline of Baubotanik is dedicated to designing with trees. Build projects, prototypes and visionary concepts point the way to a new green architecture. This introduction shows the possibilities of such living constructions and explains the botanical growth principles that guide the design. The basics of constructing with trees are presented. The book encourages a whole new look at architecture that becomes part of urban nature.

Summary:
Capital’s voracious appetite forces architecture into a regime of "never enough." The current realities of building involve extraction and exploitation, which, in turn, cause climate breakdown, environmental ruin, alienated labor conditions, and the destruction of local construction knowledge. But what if we could do architecture differently? What does non-extractivist architecture look like? In this book, Angelika Fitz and Elke Krasny introduce the concept of abundance to call for a paradigm shift in architecture. Using as its example the exceptional work of architect Anupama Kundoo, this book shows that non-extractivist and non-exploitative architecture is undeniably possible. Kundoo, born in Pune, India, weaves together innovative technological experimentation and traditional crafts. With careful consideration of local resources, building skills, climate, and environment, she makes buildings that embody spatial beauty and graceful materiality.

Summary:
This publication explores the fringes of metropolitan India; places of construction, deterioration and places where landscape and urban development intersect. The photographs were taken during two months of fieldwork in late 2010, covering nine different cities across the country. Both the photographs and the essay examine the haphazard and often contradictory urban growth, and together they offer a glimpse of India’s present and future cities, and as such, the very frame within which the lives of more than 400 million people currently take place. Lars Rolfsted Mortensen is an architect and photographer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. His photographic works are indebted to the New Topographics and revolves around subjects such as urban transformation, infrastructure and the notion of ‘multiple modernities’ as witnessed in the geographically diverse trajectories of modern urban development.
