Its embrace of new materials, of collage and assemblage techniques, of the designation of manufactured objects as art objects as well as its interest in performance, sound poetry, and manifestos fundamentally shaped the terms of modern art practice and created an abiding legacy for postwar art. Yet, while the word Dada has common currency, few know much about Dada art itself. In contrast to other key avant-garde movements, there has never been a major American exhibition that explores Dada specifically in broad view. Dada--the catalogue to the exhibition on view in 2006 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington and The Museum of Modern Art in New York presents the hybrid forms of Dada art through an examination of city centers where Dada emerged: Zurich, Berlin, Cologne, Hannover, New York, and Paris. Covered here are works by some 40 artists made in the period from circa 1916, when the Cabaret Voltaire was founded in Zurich, to 1926, by which time most of the Dada groups had dispersed or significantly transformed. The city sections bring together painting, sculpture, photography, collage, photomontage, prints and graphic work. Relying on dynamic design and vivid documentary images, Dada takes us through these six cities via topical essays and extensive plate sections; an illustrated chronology of the movement; witty chronicles of events in each city center; a selected bibliography; and biographies of each artist--accompanied by Dada-era photographs.

Ses pièces sont suspendues dans l’atelier, accrochées aux murs, posées à même le sol : elles envahissent l’espace dans un continuum menant au vertige, le geste artistique se fait expérience physique et visuelle. Aux confins de l’abstraction, Bettina manipule, tord, étale, étire matière, lumière et ombre. Sa pratique sérielle donne à voir un univers hypnotique et d’une grande puissance visuelle. En 2019, la photographe franco-marocaine Yto Barrada expose expose quelques œuvres de Bettina au LMCC’s, à New York, qui permet la redécouverte de son travail. Barrada gagne la confiance de Bettina qui ouvre pour la première fois ses archives dans lesquelles Yto Barrada et Gregor Huber vont se plonger pendant près de trois ans. Lawler's oeuvre was essential in creating an expanded field for photography, it was crucial in postmodern debates over theories of representation, it remains indelible within the field of institutional critique, and it has always been trenchant in its sustained commitment to a feminist vision of art, art history, and contemporary art practice. But Lawler is also an old-fashioned "artist's artist," long overdue for the kind of serious reconsideration and recognition that this volume affords. The very self-effacing nature of Lawler's practice, however, her continual suspicion about notions of authorship-and her sly disregard for museological conventions-have meant that she has resisted precisely the usual mid-career retrospective. Central element of the park is a concrete sculpture, over 500m-long, accommodating a lake surrounded by sandy beaches and a reed belt. The idea for the design of the park was the result of an international competition initiated in 2001 and won by Berlin practice Kiefer. As the second exhibition at gallery AedesLand, this project will be introduced in June 2007. Contrary to the usual approach, the exhibition does not aim to present an already completed construction but rather make transparent the process of creation and realization of the building project ‘opfikerpark’. The efforts and challenges to create a complex and outstanding structure, which were faced by client, planners, engineers as well as executing contractors, shall be recorded in a commented illustration of the construction work. Building sites are temporary production sites involving a multitude of disciplines and trades which need to be coordinated. The exhibition reflects the progressing technological, organizational and design process as well as the objective and subjective influences in effect and thus aims to convey a realistic image of the building activities. Photographer Hanns Joosten has documented the construction progress at regular intervals. His high-quality, large-scale images communicate the special aesthetics of a building site in all its diversity and affect the atmosphere of the exhibition. The whole exhibition space will be part of the exhibition, even floors and ceilings. In December 2006, close to Zurich airport, Opfikerpark was completed after a construction period of 79 weeks. Central element of the park is a concrete sculpture, over 500m-long, accommodating a lake surrounded by sandy beaches and a reed belt. The idea for the design of the park was the result of an international competition initiated in 2001 and won by Berlin practice Kiefer. As the second exhibition at gallery AedesLand, this project will be introduced in June 2007. Contrary to the usual approach, the exhibition does not aim to present an already completed construction but rather make transparent the process of creation and realization of the building project ‘opfikerpark’. The efforts and challenges to create a complex and outstanding structure, which were faced by client, planners, engineers as well as executing contractors, shall be recorded in a commented illustration of the construction work. Building sites are temporary production sites involving a multitude of disciplines and trades which need to be coordinated. The exhibition reflects the progressing technological, organizational and design process as well as the objective and subjective influences in effect and thus aims to convey a realistic image of the building activities. Photographer Hanns Joosten has documented the construction progress at regular intervals. His high-quality, large-scale images communicate the special aesthetics of a building site in all its diversity and affect the atmosphere of the exhibition. The whole exhibition space will be part of the exhibition, even floors and ceilings. The Erie Canal turned the port of New York into the gateway to the United States, ushering in a time of enormous growth and change for the city of New York. Still very much a work in progress, New York became both an international economic and cultural center: it was transformed into what contemporary observers variously termed the Empire City, the Great Emporium, and the Empress City of the West. The cultural component of this transformation was as significant as its economic aspect. Highly skilled artists and craftsmen working in New York, both native born and immigrant, grew in number, and institutions devoted to the arts emerged and flourished. With Broadway at its heart, the Great Emporium developed into the nation’s major manufacturing and retailing center, the depot for luxury goods made in and around the city and imported from Europe.
