Summary:
In a digital age of ever-faster technological innovation, Douglas Mandry explores the photographic medium using analog methods. For ''Unseen Sights'', published in the book ''Equivalences'', the Swiss photographer was inspired by early 20th-century postcards from the Middle East. Using acrylic paint and an airbrush, he colourized black-and-white prints of landscapes in Cappadocia, Turkey, then re-photographed the compositions. Rather than merely reproducing images, the book offered the artist an opportunity to re-interpret the pictures. Playing with layers of colour in print, the artist created a new representation – using, this time, a mechanical process.

In particular, this term encapsulates the tendency of various Blue-Chip Galleries to follow their well-to-do clientele into the reclusion of exclusive luxury enclaves such as Aspen, Saint-Tropez or Monte-Carlo. The issue also engages with the increasing relevance of digital media, which not only plays a growing part in informing processes of recognition but fundamentally influences the conditions under which artistic work is made and experienced.

Summary:
A reciprocal framework in architecture is a construction where a building’s weight is held not through a single post or beam, but through an interaction of mutually supportive, interwoven members. Reciprocal frameworks have been in use for hundreds of years—including in the work of such Renaissance masters as Leonardo—but, while they are still used today, they are not particularly well known. This book delves into the history and function of reciprocal frameworks, showing not only how they work but also how newly available digital tools can help architects fruitfully expand their use well beyond current applications.

Summary:
The future of humanity is urban, and the nature of urban space enables, and necessitates, sharing—of resources, goods and services, experiences. Yet traditional forms of sharing have been undermined in modern cities by social fragmentation and commercialization of the public realm. In Sharing Cities, Duncan McLaren and Julian Agyeman argue that the intersection of cities’ highly networked physical space with new digital technologies and new mediated forms of sharing offers cities the opportunity to connect smart technology to justice, solidarity, and sustainability. McLaren and Agyeman explore the opportunities and risks for sustainability, solidarity, and justice in the changing nature of sharing.
