In this collection, Brooke looks at the renovation of the display cases at Vienna’s Natural History Museum as an opportunity to record the layering of time and history, and to comment on what information our cultural arbiters – in this case, museum curators – see as important. As the museum transitions from the static 19th-century exhibition model to an interactive 21st-century style, Brooke makes knowing use of the reflections and transparency of the glass cases, and the disorder of their contents.

Picturing Mexico: From the Camera Lucida to Film explores the early artistic and cultural factors that contributed to the emergence of film in a heterogeneous media environment at the turn of the 20th century. Focusing his attention upon lithographs and photographs of Mexico created by European and North American visitors, Fullerton argues that the introduction of the illustrated press and the popular photographic album towards the end of the 19th century transformed the private space of the printed page. He contends that the dynamics of the moving image were informed by the convergence of these media forms.

Summary:
Construction has emerged as a mainstream political issue. Yet the building trade is one of the world’s weakest: it is fragmented, barely globalised and behind other sectors in introducing disruptive innovations to its basic processes. The modest worldwide scale of prefabricated building confirms how construction remains a 19th century affair, not a 21st century one. Drawing on the latest technologies that have emerged both inside and outside the sector, "Why is construction so backward?" forms a detailed, practical alternative to the conventional wisdom in building design and urban planning. It is a powerful call for reform, and a sharp attack against architecture as social engineering and environmentalist dogma.
