Thirty two large format photographic color prints focus on arctic and sub-arctic regions of Canada. Arnold Zageris captures the images using a traditional large format 4x5 view camera, technology that is unsurpassed for landscape photography in this digital age. The method allows for fine details and subtle nuances of form and texture to emerge. Although the colors and contrasts may appear enhanced, these works have no special filters or treatments. Zageris states his commitment is “to search and find the quality of light that can inspire the imagination.” His combination of traditional technique and methodical patience lends him the ability to show us a world we may not see otherwise.

Summary:
''Making Marks'' showcases the private sketchbooks of the world's most visually inventive architects, revealing just how much drawing by hand informs great contemporary architecture. Taking a post-digital perspective, the sixty renowned architects whose work is collected here show how drawing and new forms of manual presentation have been refined since the reawakening of this basic technique. Notepads, stacks of paper, pencils and fine-point pens are as present in the architect's studio as phalanxes of screens. Revealing why and how hand-drawing still matters, this global survey presents the freehand drawings, vibrant watercolours and abstract impressions of rising talents and well-known names, including Jun Igarashi and Brian MacKay-Lyons.

Summary:
The recent resurgence of interest in the breeze block seems to be more than a nostalgic yearning for modernism. Designers today are rediscovering the forgotten qualities that made it such an appealing material for mid-century architects, which also means finding new ways to enhance and exploit them. By deploying the techniques of 21st-century design, from digital tools to robotic fabrication, complex new forms and patterns are now possible. Not just visually appealing, these also temper internal and external environments in increasingly sensitive and climate-responsive ways. With editorial direction from architect Sam Marshall, the volume is both a survey and a celebration.

Summary:
The temporary multipurpose hall built by Frei Otto and Carlfried Mutschler for the 1975 Federal Horticultural Show in Mannheim ranks as the world’s largest wooden grid shell construction. Although it was actually put under a preservation order in 1998, an international debate is now underway to discuss whether to demolish or maintain this structure. Working by and large without any digital computation technology, Frei Otto used a delicate suspended model to design the complex roof. Drawing on materials from the archives of Carlfried Mutschler and Frei Otto that are for the most part unpublished, the book presents the history of this experimental building for the first time.

Summary:
This publication offers a spectrum of views on how the myriad forms of exhibiting photographies can increase our understanding of how images operate today, as well as what they do to us when we interact with them. In the Digital Age, “photography” is best described with adjectives connoting a medium in constant flux: liquid, fluid, flexible, unstable. As such, there is no primary format for displaying photographs. By drawing upon the diverse perspectives of a group of curators, scholars, photographers, and artists based in the field of contemporary photography, this volume aims to provide a foundation for a wider discourse about exhibiting photographies in the twenty-first century.

Summary:
Sounding New Media examines the long-neglected role of sound and audio in the development of new media theory and practice, including new technologies and performance art events, with particular emphasis on sound, embodiment, art, and technological interactions. Frances Dyson takes an historical approach, focusing on technologies that became available in the mid-twentieth century-electronics, imaging, and digital and computer processing-and analyzing the work of such artists as John Cage, Edgard Varèse, Antonin Artaud, and Char Davies. She utilizes sound's intangibility to study ideas about embodiment (or its lack) in art and technology as well as fears about technology and the so-called "post-human."

Summary:
Although the term "psychedelic" was coined to describe hallucinatory experiences produced by drugs used psychotherapeutically, the story these images tell is about the influence of psychedelic culture on the art world—not necessarily the influence of drugs. As contemporary art evolved into a diverse and pluralistic discipline, the psychedelic evolved into a language of color and light. In Psychedelic, more than seventy-five vivid color images chart this development, exploring the art chronologically, from early Op Art through recent work using digital technology. The book, which accompanies an exhibition organized by the San Antonio Museum of Art, includes three essays that set the works in historical and cultural context.

Summary:
In Grid Index, Carsten Nicolai created a visual lexicon of patterns and grid systems. Now Moiré Index is dedicated to his exploration of the moiré effect a phenomenon that can be created by the overlay of lines. Although such interference patterns are mostly considered to be unwanted side effects, they are actually extremely interesting from an aesthetic perspective. Based upon years of research, Nicolai has analyzed and systematically unlocked fundamental structures of crucial importance to the visualization of data. A CD accompanies the book and contains not only the featured moirés as digital files, but also individual elements that can be used to create an almost endless amount of new overlays.
