Summary:
Sibylle Eimermacher is a German-born artist who has lived in the Netherlands for more than two decades. A few years ago, the reds, browns, and purples of granite and porphyry found on sandy Dutch terrains caught her eye. Research into these glacial erratics pointed her to two regions, the Dalarna province in Sweden and the Åland archipelago in Finland, reawakening her urge to travel north. This book is the outcome of her quest, leading to where the rocks lay bare, to the open veins that pigment the landscape as they leave behind their native Scandinavian bedrock to eventually fade into the Dutch flatlands – a surrender to the universal condition of constant change.

Summary:
This volume overturns the perception of Brutalist buildings as the penny-pinching, utilitarian products of dutiful social concern. Instead it looks a little closer, uncovering the luxuriously skilled craft and daring engineering with which the best buildings of the 1960s came into being: magnificent architectural visions serving clients rich and poor, radical and conservative. Beginning in a tiny hermitage on the remote north Scottish coast, and ending up backstage at the National Theatre, this book embarks on a wide-ranging journey through Britain over the past sixty years, stopping to examine how eight extraordinary buildings were made - from commission to construction - why they have been so vilified, and why they are beginning to be loved.

Summary:
Looking beyond East/West and North/South divisions, the ''Art and solidarity reader'' asks: what were and are the alternative circuits of survival and solidarity among artists and activists from nonaligned nations and politically challenging contexts? What do these trajectories of solidarity lead to, in and outside of art worlds? How can traveling exhibitions, museological displays, the idea of ''the museum in exile,'' artistic actions and performative groupings become tools for political struggle against oppression and social fragmentation? The ''Art and solidarity reader'' gathers microhistories from the 1970s to today, rethinking our collective responses to the multiple crises related to migration, colonialism, rising radicalization, religious conflicts, class divisions, new technology, heteronormativity and environmental urgencies.

Summary:
Bringing together leading researchers from geography, political science, sociology, public policy and technology studies, this publication exposes the politics of well-known disruptions such as devastation of New Orleans in 2005, the global SARS outbreak in 2002-3, and the great power collapse in the North Eastern US in 2003. But the book also excavates the politics of more hidden disruptions : the clogging of city sewers with fat; the day-to-day infrastructural collapses which dominate urban life in much of the global south; the deliberate devastation of urban infrastructure by state militaries; and the ways in which alleged threats of infrastructural disruption have been used to radically reorganise cities as part of the ‘war on terror’.

Summary:
“When walking, or perhaps more rarely when sauntering on horseback, one is in direct contact with surroundings, reifying a connection to natural rhythms. To forget the season, soil, and sky is to deny existence.” So writes landscape architect Roger G. Courtenay in this publication. Whether walking the Piedmont of Virginia, canoeing the French Broad River near Asheville, North Carolina, driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway, or exploring Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village, Courtenay turns to his local countryside for inspiration. In this book the author delves into the nuances of his craft, inviting us to share his encounters with a myriad of landscapes and revealing how he then interprets these experiences in his sketches.
