Summary:
This volume reunites a selection of paintings from the Roma series, completed during Guston's residency at the American Academy in Rome in 1970-71. From early in his career, Guston had taken inspiration from Italian art, and his 1973 painting "Pantheon" features a list of Italian painters: de Chirico, Masaccio, Piero della Francesca, Giotto and Tiepolo. The Roma works consolidate this dialogue with Italian art and culture. Diary entries published alongside the reproductions recount exchanges at the American Academy, pilgrimages to Venice, Arezzo, Sicily and Orvieto, and observations of the international cultural community in Rome.

Summary:
The Milanese photographer and long-distance traveler captures the light (and visual contrasts) of Rome while walking through the city. Giovanna Silva arrived in Rome in January of 2020 and immediately set off walking. Following the suggestions of her personal guides – artists, writers, intellectuals, Romans of all shapes and idioms – she began to get to know the city. She returned to certain places over and over again, overtaken by meticulous and neurotic attention, moved by an unexpected passion for light. Tucked between her photographs is a text by Alberto Savinio about the magic of walking and discovering a foreign place.

Summary:
While visiting Rome, world-renowned photographer Gregory Crewdson was invited to tour the legendary film studio Cinecittà, where directors such as Federico Fellini and Roberto Rossellini shot their iconic works. He found the elaborate film sets fallen into ruin and, captivated by their beauty, chose them as the subject of his next body of work. Although his earlier series were characterized by large production crews, custom-built soundstages, and hired actors, Crewdson returned to Rome with only a small team to create the haunting black-and-white portraits of deteriorating buildings and deserted streets that are flawlessly reproduced in this book.
