Summary:
This architect from Rome is one of the younger generation of Italian architects who possesses a wide knowledge of the architectural debate and is firmly dedicated to a qualitative and innovative resurrection of architecture in Italy. He is known, among other reasons, for his analyses of the cultural situation and the profession of the contemporary architect in the internationally renowned architectural magazine "Domus", as well as for his activities as deputy editor-in-chief of this journal from 1992 to 1996. In this book, Nicola Di Battista analyses the discipline of architecture and the architect's profession, developing principles of a new orientation from a beneficial distance and with a clear overview.

Summary:
Empire is a sweeping book with a big-picture vision. Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri argue that while classical imperialism has largely disappeared, a new empire is emerging in a diffuse blend of technology, economics, and globalization. The book brings together unlikely bedfellows: Hardt, associate professor in Duke University's literature program, and Negri, among other things a writer and inmate at Rebibbia Prison in Rome. Empire aspires to the same scale of grand political philosophy as Locke or Marx or Fukuyama, but whether Hardt and Negri accomplish this daunting task is debatable. It is, however, an exciting book that is especially timely following the emergence of terrorism as a geopolitical force.

Summary:
The recent collaboration between Gian Piero Frassinelli – founder of the Florentine collective Superstudio – and 2A+P/A an architectural practice based in Rome – relaunched a long-established, yet generally overlooked, debate on the relationship between architecture and anthropology. Moving away from a historical or scientific perspective to embrace the point of view of the project, the exhibition Savage Architecture genealogically reconstructs the ethos of such collaboration in four episodes. The outcome is a journey through the imaginative potential of the anthropological gaze in constructing both meaning and a method for the architectural project as an alternative to the dominant belief in the economic and technological reasons.

Christopher Tadgell covers the major architectural traditions of the Middle Ages, from the Romanesque architecture of the 9th and 10th centuries, built on the legacy of ancient Rome and including elements from Carolingian, Ottonian, Byzantine and northern European traditions, through to the evolution of the Gothic which heralded new, structurally daring architecture. The book ends with the Italian rediscovery of Classical ideas and ideals and the emergence of the great Renaissance theorists and architects, including Brunelleschi, Alberti, and Bramante. As well as the palazzos, villas and churches of Renaissance Italy, this period saw the building of great chateaux in France, palaces in Germany and the golden-domed cathedrals of Russia.

Summary:
''Italian Views'' is a continuation of Gail Albert Halaban's series ''Out My Window'', featuring intimate domestic portraits against the cinematic backdrop of the city. In this new chapter, the artist shifts her focus from Paris to Italy- steadying her gaze through the windows of others in communities throughout Florence, Milan, Venice, Palermo, Naples, Lucca, and Rome. Albert Halaban works with local residents to stage and collaborate on each portrait, and through her lens, the viewer is welcomed into the private lives of ordinary Italian people. Her photographs explore the conventions and tensions of urban lifestyles, feelings of isolation in the city, and the intimacies of home and daily life.
