Summary:
For Georges Didi-Huberman, artist James Turrell is an inventor of impossible spaces and unthinkable sites, of aporias, of fables. Creator of some of the most fascinating works of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century, Turrell uses as his medium the most elemental material of sight and art: light. One crucial aspect of his work is the fabulation of place and vision with its foundation deep in history. Didi-Huberman takes the reader on a journey between the impossible limit of the horizon and the arrival into a site of reverie and light, from the story of Exodus to the Pala d’Oro of San Marco’s Basilica in Venice, through art history and the origins of religious worship, finally plunging into Turrell’s cadmium dust and light, into the Painted Desert of his installation Roden Crater. For the esteemed art historian, Turrell’s artistic practice becomes the equivalent of walking along endless pathways in the desert, in “minuscule cathedrals where man discovers himself walking in color.”

Catalogue. Basle 2008/09. Introduction by Kai Vöckler. This is the first of a series of investigations of urban development in post-conflict areas, initiated by Archis Interventions. After NATO-led KFOR troops ended civil war in Kosovo (1999), an instant building boom changed the capital Prishtina dramatically. Within a few years its population doubled, partly as a consequence of an influx of returning refugees. This book describes, maps and analyzes the situation in Prishtina after 1999, documents problem-solving strategies, and discusses the significance of this kind of urban development for the way urban life evolves in crisis zones. The title hints at two phenomena: firstly, urban development of this type is typical for many post-conflict situations, and secondly, most of the construction in Prishtina has been financed by remittances from family members working abroad (one-fifth of Kosovo’s entire population lives abroad, specifically in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria).

This nostalgic tour-de-force celebrates the alternative news-papers that forever influenced culture, politics, and society. Taking the collective name from the wartime 'underground press' of Europe's anti-Nazi resistance, the rebellious countercultural publications examined here were all members of the Underground Press Syndicate (later renamed the Alternative Press Syndicate), which was founded in 1967 so that member papers could freely share material. This utopian model perfectly suited the times. The work of soon to be famous writers and artists such as Hunter S. Thompson, T. Coraghessan Boyle, Ken Kesey, T. Crumb, and Art Spiegelman was soon widely available from coast to coast.

Summary:
"On knowledge production : a critical reader in contemporary art" presents a selection of newly commissioned and anthologized texts by a diverse group of artists, art historians, philosophers, and theorists who have engaged with thinking critically about the field of art as a site for the production of knowledge. The body of contributions in this reader comprise a series of critical inquiries, thought experiments, documents of practices, and tentative propositions about the status of producing knowledge in contemporary art, which vary widely in perspective, approach, and form. This selection unfolds different entry points and layers, unwrapping the (often) uncritically adopted notion of "art producing knowledge" and casting diverse views on the context, meaning, and potential of this understanding of art practices today.
