Summary:
The shift from modern to digital systems of design and production 'opens up' a material work to a deeper relationship between author and perceiver. From the classical work to the modern object, and from the modern industrial to 'computerised' procedures, the interplay between author and user has become closer, more direct, more open. How does this increasing complicity affect architectural practice? How can architecture be conceived as a more fluid informational development? This first issue of the new boogazine "Verb" deals with the present relationship between information and authorship in architectural practice, featuring works and texts by Manuel de Landa, Jorge Wagensberg, FOA, Sadar & Vuga, Njiric+Njiric, Lacaton-Vassal .

Summary:
In this excavation of our Information Age, Adam Greenfield forces us to reconsider our relationship with the networked objects, services and spaces that define us. It is time to re-evaluate the Silicon Valley consensus determining the future. Having successfully colonized everyday life, these radical technologies are now conditioning the choices available to us in the years to come. How do they work? What challenges do they present to us, as individuals and societies? Who benefits from their adoption? In answering these questions, Greenfield’s timely guide clarifies the scale and nature of the crisis we now confront —and offers ways to reclaim our stake in the future.

Summary:
Infrastructural systems facilitate the flow of anything from people and goods to resources and information. While engineered to perform specific tasks, such networks also determine the structure of buildings, cities, metropolitan regions, and beyond. Taking this into consideration, this book seeks the expansion and renegotiation of the roles of infrastructure as not only a technical, but also a political, economic, social, and even aesthetic matter of concern for all. It entails both the means for achieving more resilient forms of development and a right to a sustainable way of life. With 25 essays by Keller Easterling, Michael Dear, Salmaan Craig, and Nancy Couling, among others.

Summary:
''After Belonging'' examines the objects, spaces, and territories of our transforming condition of belonging. The global circulation of people, information, and goods has destabilised what we under- stand by residence, questioning spatial permanence, property, and identity - a crisis of belonging. Circulation brings greater accessibility to ever-new commodities and further geographies. But, simultaneously, circulation also promotes growing inequalities for large groups who are kept in precarious states of transit. The publication examines both our attachment to places and collectivities as well as our relation to the objects we produce, own, share, and exchange. It analyses the architectures entangled in these definitions through a selection of projects, texts, and case studies.

Summary:
For more than twenty years, Armin Linke has been photographing the effects of globalization, the wholesale transformation of infrastructures, and the networking of the post-industrial society via digital information and communication technologies. His photographs show that the modern world is a massive profusion of data, where the material infrastructures, consisting of computer centres, data highways, and server rooms, are largely invisible. For The Appearance of That Which Cannot Be Seen, Linke invited scientists and theoreticians to examine his picture archive. Ariella Azoulay, Bruno Latour, Peter Weibel, Mark Wigley, and Jan Zalasiewicz made a selection of images and in the process opened up Linke’s photos to a variety of different readings.

Summary:
In recent years reports of accelerating sea level rise, species extinction, shifting weather patterns, and stressed landscapes have become increasingly common. Although we are well supplied with scientific information about environmental change, we often do not have the cultural resources to respond thoughtfully and to imagine our own futures in a tangibly altered world. This book poses the term "anticipatory history" as a tool to help us connect past, present and future environmental change. Through discussion of a series of topics, a range of leading academics, authors and practitioners consider how the stories we tell about ecological and landscape histories can help shape our perceptions of plausible environmental futures.
