Summary:
Connecting significant religious art and artifacts to their sartorial expressions, 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination' provides a critical analysis of fashion’s engagement with notions of the divine. Exploring fashion’s complex and often controversial relationship with Catholicism, Heavenly Bodies probes what dress reveals about the state of religion and spirituality within contemporary culture, and how it may manifest—or subvert—Catholic values and ideology. Art objects, such as devotional paintings and altarpieces from The Met’s collection, are presented alongside fashions from designers including Cristóbal Balenciaga, Callot Soeurs, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, John Galliano, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Madame Grès, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Jeanne Lanvin, Claire McCardell, Alexander McQueen, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Gianni Versace.

Summary:
FAKTUR is a journal that celebrates research as the source of architectural imagination. FAKTUR—the German term for a dynamic concept and a set of techniques that influenced the Russian avant-garde of the early twentieth century—identifies both a subjective medium and a technical, productive, and social construct, documented as visual traces in the final work of art. Subsequently, the term came to identify the organic process of materialization. Its use is intended as a counter-model to the utopian genre of culture elucidated in William Morris’s "News from Nowhere". Rather than the ideal, ex-temporal, and ungraspable political space that operates at the intersection between representation and ideology, this magazine offers a materialist critique of contemporary culture.

Summary:
Adolf Loos (1870-1933) was a Viennese architect known for his radical building facades. Author Ralf Bock reveals the sensuality of Loos's interior designs, demonstrating that Loos was not an architect of the "white modern movement," but rather, he fought against it. A careful analysis of Loos's ideology and oeuvre, this book features 30 existing projects in 160 extraordinary full-color images by the celebrated French photographer Philippe Ruault, who has completely rephotographed Loos's works. These new images offer different interpretations of Loos' interiors and bring him back to the center of contemporary architectural debate. The color photographs are supplemented by archival photos from the Loos Archive of the Albertina, Vienna, and a completely new set of project drawings.

Summary:
Despite the increasing numbers of people who now work from home, in the popular imagination the home is still understood as the sanctuary of privacy and intimacy. Living is conceptually and definitively separated from work. This book argues against such a separation, countering the prevailing ideology of domesticity with a series of architectural projects that illustrate alternative approaches. Less a monograph than a treatise, richly illustrated, the book combines historical research and design proposals to reenvision home as a cooperative structure in which it is possible to live and work and in which labor is socialized beyond the family—freeing inhabitants from the sense of property and the burden of domestic labor.
