Saat Rasta
AP182.S1.2012.D2
Description:
File documents an executed project for a live-work complex in Mumbai, India, that reuses the structure of an existing fire-damaged warehouse. The name of the project, Saat Rasta, translates literally to Seven Roads, a reference to a nearby roundabout. The site is immediately adjacent to the Central railroad as well as an informal housing settlement, qualities which made the location undesirable for developers. To adhere to zoning regulations, the design recoups the warehouse's original basalt stone perimeter wall. Brick infill delineates the units, while new wood-frame and cement-panel walls shape interior spaces. Each unit contains one or two courtyards, the roofs of which tilt inward to capture rain and avoid draining water on the surrounding housing. The courtyards also allow for the growth of local vegetation, especially Goolar figs, which had overgrown on the site before its redevelopment. File contains photographs, drawings, and a model.

Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for Acadia Park at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Oberlander worked on this project in 1969. The project consisted in design the landscape master plan and the play area for the Acadia Married Student Housing complex, which included in kindergarten. Oberlander preserved the forest edge of the site and even included some of the mature trees present on the site by suspending rope swings to their trunks. The play area also reused ancient trees as play structures, and a wobble walk made of logs ends of various heights. The project series contains design development drawings, including a proposed landscape master plan and landscape plans, and also working drawings, such as elevations and details of the playground structures and benches. The project is also documented through photographs of the playground and correspondence with clients. Source: [1] Herrington, Susan. Description:
The project series documents "La Mia Casa All'Elba", Pettena's house in Viticcio on the Island of Elba. The project, started in 1978, remained an ongoing project as the house has undergone many transformations over the years. The residence "is conditioned by its relationship with the physical context, the material and the working of space." [1] Pettena even reused some of the material already on site to build the residence. The house is comprised of different pavilions and spaces interconnected by small paths: "The house has progressively been defined as a sequence of spaces connected by routes, just like in a village. So it goes on growing almost like a primitive village, through intentions, successive organizations of spaces that define one another and are linked together." [2] The project series contains a sketch, plans, perspective drawings of the house and later additions. The project series is also comprised of photographs, including interior views showing artworks, photographs of Elba possibly used for research, and two videocassettes possibly with recordings of TV shows presenting the house.
