Résumé:
How do we challenge the prevailing visual discourse of contemporary architecture? Is there a more harmonious architectural production path? Can we inhabit Earth without annihilating the very conditions sustaining us and others? "Dominio" confronts architecture’s grand narrative by illuminating its production processes. These images strive to trigger a critical introspection about architectural production and its socio-ecological footprint, while contesting the dominant visual narrative that perpetuates its existence. This publication, then, is a mosaic of queries, contradictions, and internal conflict. It serves as my introspective critique of how my role as an architectural photographer might have inadvertently contributed to architecture’s fetishization.

Résumé:
Overlapped by cultural consumption and politics, planetary imagination stimulates a useful framework for interrogating the human impact on environmental limitations over a technological foreground. The blurry lines between the engineered logic and cultural imagination are continually embedded and influenced by intuition in the cultural practices of capital enclosure. Theories, design practices, and the forms of imagination, including science fiction, open up critical questions on the status of our environment here on Earth. This book comprises a series of conversations to gather experts from a range of disciplines at the intersection of architecture and the environment. It continues the conversation with a collection of essays as both reflections from the provocative discussions and expanding the discourse of enclosed environments in architecture and design fields.

Résumé:
This collection of essays by architect Mario Gooden investigates the construction of African American identity and representation through the medium of architecture. These five texts move between history, theory, and criticism to explore a discourse of critical spatial practice engaged in the constant reshaping of the African Diaspora. African American cultural institutions designed and constructed in recent years often rely on cultural stereotypes, metaphors, and clichés to communicate significance, demonstrating "Africanisms" through form and symbolism?but there is a far richer and more complex heritage to be explored. Presented here is a series of questions that interrogate and illuminate other narratives of "African American architecture," and reveal compelling ways of translating the philosophical idea of the African Diaspora's experience into space.

Résumé:
Material Matters brings together texts and work by theorists and practitioners who are making material central to their work and reflects the diverse areas of inquiry which are expanding current material discourse. Focusing on the cultural, political, economic, technological and intellectual forces which shape material practices in architecture, the contributors draw on disciplines ranging from philosophy, history and pedagogy to art practice and digital and low-tech fabrication. By paying critical attention to material, a wide range of issues emerge in Material Matters which are otherwise excluded from architectural discourse, issues that shape and determine the buildings we make, the processes we use and the ways we understand them. Beautifully illustrated and designed, this book is a unique collection which will be of great interest to architectural practitioners and theorists who want to consider the wider implications of material practice, and to students who are developing their own approach to making buildings.

Résumé:
Collected here for the first time are Liam Gillick’s major fictional texts: ‘McNamara Papers’, Ibuka’, ‘Discussion Island/Big Conference Centre’, ‘The Winter School’, with Erasmus is Late and Literally No Place. Within each history and the utopias and alternative visions of society envisioned by writers, filmmakers, philosophers, and scientists are presented and speculated on, often through the fictionalised voices of secondary historical characters. Traversing genres of fiction and critical discourse, ideas are explored in a nonlinear, open-ended discursive format, in which the textual structure mirrors the structuring of the presented ideas. In each text Gillick’s concern is to explore complex, paradoxical historical moments and the ideologies that shaped, reflecting on how the redundant utopian elements of the past continue to structure contemporary society and remain impulses within speculations of our post-utopian future.

Résumé:
The book, ''Architecture as fabulated reality,'' marks the culmination of AAPK’s four experimental architectural projects, which employed virtual reality technology (VR) as the primary medium. The four projects explore a new emerging sense of spatiality, fabulating and questioning the notion of reality based upon shared backgrounds and attitudes to contemporary architectural discourse. To enhance ideas advanced by AAPK, the book invites four guest contributors from the architectural academic field in forms of critical essays or an interview. They reveal their collective interest in the power of the image and in forms of reality, in medium specificity and digital technology, and in presentation and representation along disciplinary lines. The subject of the book becomes clearer by curating and connecting each text, and meanwhile, makes it possible to reflect upon the situation that architecture is facing in the reality crisis caused by today’s digital technology or image culture.

Résumé:
Log 33 delivers emerging currents and renewed interests in architectural thought. It includes a thorough examination of object-oriented philosophy: two essays offering contrasting positions on its value for the architectural discipline as well as a conversation between philosopher Graham Harman and architects Todd Gannon, David Ruy, and Tom Wiscombe. Objects are invoked throughout the issue in myriad other ways – in essays on the postcritical legacy, architecture and objecthood, shape and character, history and machines – highlighting the currency and multivalence of the term object in the discourse today. Log 33 also presents Wolfgang Schivelbusch’s “World Machines,” the new preface to his recently republished book The Railway Journey (plus an introduction to his work by Sanford Kwinter) as well as critical commentary on architectural events from around the world, essays on urban noise and architectural acoustics, new explorations of the architect’s hand in drawing, and more.

Résumé:
A prominent practitioner, an influential theorist, and an esteemed educator, the architect Peter Eisenman today stands at the center of architectural discourse and debate. This book, a companion volume to "Eisenman inside out : selected writings, 1963–1988", gathers a selection of his later writings. In these texts Eisenman undertakes theoretical analyses, close readings of his own works, and innovative assessments of the designs and writings of other architects and critics. In an introduction to the volume, Jeffrey Kipnis looks closely at Eisenman’s approach toward language and writing, a practice in which architecture itself becomes a form of written theory, as well as at his context within a critical canon that includes Jacques Derrida and Rosalind Krauss. Presenting the range of Eisenman’s important contributions to architectural theory, this collection of nineteen essays provides insight into the architect’s own understandings and methodologies and offers provocative challenges for his readers.

This publication pays tribute to two important systems of architectural representation: the model and the photograph. Rescuing over 100 original photographs of outstanding models - some eventually realized, and some that would remain unbuilt - from 20th-century Spain, this volume offers a modern, visual, critical and historiographical discourse on Spanish architecture from this rich period after the First World War. Beyond the analysis of the models’ technical and compositional structure, the book includes sample pictures by photographers such as Francesc Català-Roca, Joaquín del Palacio (Kindel), Juan Pando, Martin Lladó, Oriol Maspons Ubiña Gomez and Ramón Massats, and architects such as José Manuel Aizpurúa, Alejandro de la Sota and Fernando Higueras.

Résumé:
Studios are, at once, material environments and symbolic forms, sites of artistic creation and physical labor, and nodes in networks of resource circulation. They are architectural places that generate virtual spaces—worlds built to build worlds. On the outside, they have become icons of corporate identity, while on the inside, they have remained invisible in order to be seen. As such, they have actively faded into the background of critical discourse and into the margins of film and media history. Recovering their hidden role in the history of visual creation, ''In the studio'' demonstrates that when we foreground these worlds, we gain new insights into moving-image culture and the material, ecological, social, political, and economic dynamics that quietly mark the worlds on our screens.
