Join us on Thursday 28 August in Parc Baile for a screening of Brazilian documentary film Mundurukuyü – The Forest of the Fish Women, directed by Aldira Akay, Beka Munduruku, and Rilcélia Akay, as part of Cinéfaçade: Sowing and Resisting in Brazilian Topography.
On the banks of the river Tapajós, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, three filmmakers from the Daje Kapap Eypi collective—composed of women from the Munduruku people—take up the camera to defend their heritage, preserve their traditions, and assert their right to tell their people’s story. Through this act of self-ethnography, they bear witness not only to their fight against invasions and deforestation, but also to the cultural richness of the Munduruku. With love and pride, the filmmakers portray the magic of their daily lives and the spirit of the forest—an ancestral, spiritual force deeply rooted in their existence. This cinematic project highlights the inseparable bond between the struggle for land and the preservation of culture and identity. It stands as both an act of resistance and of self-affirmation, as well as being an invaluable educational tool for future generations
