Please join us for a conversation about the independent international publisher Valiz with Guy Cools, Pascal Gielen, and Carolyn F. Strauss.
Focusing on contemporary art, theory, critique, design, and urban affairs, Valiz’s books offer critical reflection and interdisciplinary inspiration, often establishing a connection between cultural disciplines and socio-political questions. They publish these books out of a commitment to their content, to artistic and social issues, and to the artists, designers, and authors.
For the occasion, Cools, Gielen, and Strauss will discuss their contributions to the publications Trust and Slow Technology Reader, as well as Performing Mourning and Sensing Earth, both part of the Antennae, Arts in Society series.
This event is free of charge, but space is limited, so registration is recommended.
Prof. Pascal Gielen is part of the editorial board of Valiz-Arts in Society and a full Professor of Sociology of Culture & Politics at the University of Antwerp. He is director of the Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts and the Culture Commons Quest Office (CCQO).
Guy Cools is a Belgian dance dramaturge, currently teaching at Université du Québec à Montréal. He has worked as a dance critic and dance curator. From 1990 to 2002, he curated the dance program of Arts Centre Vooruit in Ghent, Belgium.
Carolyn F. Strauss is the founder and director of Slow Research Lab. She is a curator, educator, creative facilitator, and public speaker whose experience traverses the fields of architecture, design, contemporary art, emerging technology, and social and environmental activism.
