Co-organized by Centro de Estudios Públicos, the Fundación de Arquitectura Fragil, and Museo Nacional Bellas Artes in the context of the latter’s current exhibition Contact Sheets, Giovanna Borasi delivers an in-person lecture in Santiago called “The Other Architect: Another Way of Building”. Following an introduction by Smiljan Radić, Borasi’s lecture revisits and expands on a perennial theme in her work, most notably explored in the 2015–2016 CCA exhibition and publication of the same name, which she curated and edited. With key historical instances like Anyone Corporation, AMO, the Delos Symposion, Design-a-Thon, ILAUD, and Architectural Detective Agency, “the Other Architect” is a framework for classifying architectural practices that exist beyond the fringes of convention, intensifying the dimensions of research, pedagogy, and public engagement in design processes, broadening or even dismantling the definition of what it means to do architecture. Far from being a solidified historical list, there are contemporary practices that can be appreciated in the same light, and Borasi’s lecture examines some of them too. The lecture is followed by a conversation with architect, educator, and writer Enrique Walker.
