CCA Research Network: The Place of Research@Mexico City

CCA elsewhere, in English, General Anaya, Mexico City, 14 April 2026

The Place of Research is an ongoing event format that brings together members of the CCA Research Network, an entity representing alumni from our research programs, for site-specific gatherings that allow network members to share research in progress. The event highlights the ongoing concerns of the Research Network, positions the network as a medium of exchange and support, and creates concrete encounters to bring together alumni around compelling and urgent research questions.

We convene the third of these gatherings in the San Ángel neighbourhood of Mexico City on 14 April in the lead up to the annual conference of the Society of Architectural Historians. The Place of Research@Mexico City will initiate a new format in which CCA research alumni, in this case Tania Gutiérrez-Monroy (CCA-Mellon Fellow, In the Hurricane, On the Land, 2024–2025), invite other alumni into active research projects in situ, thus opening ongoing questions of relevance for the CCA Research Network.

During the event, Gutiérrez-Monroy, along with key collaborators from the Otomí community in Mexico City, will guide us through the building they have been occupying to advocate for public housing for their members and to highlight other issues related to extractivism on their territories. The gathering will highlight the CCA Research Network’s 2025–2026 theme, how can we build relation?, and allow a group of participants to engage in discussion with Gutiérrez-Monroy and members of the Otomí community around notions of situated resistance. Participants from the CCA Research Network will bring insights from their own active research projects that can contribute to the exchange.

This event is limited to members of the CCA Research Network and requires registration at studium@cca.qc.ca.
