Join us on Thursday, 17 September for a talk by architect Nana Biamah-Ofosu. As founder and director of YAA Projects, she presents the work of the practice, which explores counter-histories and material cultures, of diasporic communities through making, writing, and speaking architecture. Drawing on selected projects, Biamah-Ofosu considers how research, cultural histories, and material inquiry inform processes of making, and how these ideas are translated into architectural propositions.

Aligned with her current research residency at the CCA, this talk also explores her research on multigenerational and communal models of living based on the African Compound House typology and on African modernity more broadly.

Nana Biamah-Ofosu is one of the three guest-curators of our upcoming Out of the Box exhibition series dedicated to the work of Gillian Hopwood and John Godwin, architects in post-independence Nigeria whose archive was recently donated to the CCA.

Nana Biamah-Ofosu is a Ghanaian-British architect and founder and director of YAA Projects. Her practice focuses on the architecture and urbanism of African modernity through a diasporic and decolonial framework. She is an experienced educator and has lectured widely in the U.K. and internationally. She is a member of the African Future Institute’s Nomadic African Studio core faculty and is currently leading a diploma unit at the Architectural Association. Nana has served on the juries of several awards and is currently a member of the RIBA Awards Working Group and the Soane Medal Committee.
