What does it take to make a space feel like it belongs to everyone? And what does an architect owe to the communities, collaborators, and institutions that make their practice possible?
Join us on Thursday, 29 October for a lecture by Farida Abu-Bakare. Drawing on projects from her architectural and curatorial work, ranging from large civic projects to smaller community-rooted initiatives, the lecture retraces how community capital can shape what gets built, who a place is really for, and how design can carry someone else’s history rather than only the designer’s intent.
Farida Abu-Bakare is one of the three guest-curators of our upcoming Out of the Box exhibition series dedicated to the work of Gillian Hopwood and John Godwin, architects in post-independence Nigeria whose archive was recently donated to the CCA.
The event is free, but as places are limited, we recommend registering here.
