Join us on Friday 20 November during Dak’Art OFF for the opening of Building Material Cultures: Reengaging Senegalese Craft-Based Building Traditions. As construction in Senegal shifts towards industrialized processes and imported materials, the exhibition focuses on local material cultures (stone, shell, fibre, and clay) and their makers to offer a counterpoint to standardized and depersonalized modes of architectural production. By recovering the materials and crafts emerging from Senegal’s territory and ecosystems, it proposes new leads for the study of the country’s architectural histories and their importance for architecture today.
The exhibition opens at 4pm and is free of charge. There will be an opening talk at 4pm. To reserve your place, please RSVP by writing to rsvp@cca.qc.ca, before 16 November at 5pm (EST).
