Opening: With an Acre

Event, in English, Paul-Desmarais Theatre and Shaughnessy House, 19 June 2025, 6pm to 9pm

Join us on 19 June for the opening of our new exhibition and film With an Acre. The event launches the third and final chapter of our three-part Groundwork series, curated by Francesco Garutti and exploring the field research of contemporary architects. The event will begin with a talk by Brazilian architect Carla Juaçaba at 6pm in the Paul-Desmarais Theatre. Juaçaba will present her work, processes, and methodologies, including a project to develop a museum and community space in solidarity with Flor de Café, a collective of smallholder coffee farmers in Minas Gerais, Brazil, featured in the exhibition and film.

The galleries will open at 5pm, and the evening will conclude with a celebration in the Shaughnessy House from 7pm to 9pm.

This event is free and open to the public, no reservation is required.

Carla Juaçaba established her independent architecture practice in Rio de Janeiro in 2000, engaging in both cultural programs and private projects. For the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012, she designed the ephemeral Pavilion Humanidade with theatre director Bia Lessa. She won the first edition of the international prize ArcVision Women and Architecture in 2013 and first prize of the AREA Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award in 2018. She has taught at Mendrisio Accademia in Switzerland since 2019, and was nominated as a full professor in 2023.
