Visiting Scholar Susanne Bauer presents her research:

The theoretical debates which took place in American architecture circles—predominantly those on the east coast—as of the early 1960s were often concerned with questions of formal analysis of architectural space and, more broadly, with the present state of architecture and the discipline’s future. Some of these debates occurred at the Conference of Architects for the Study of the Environment (CASE), where key figures in American architectural discourse came together to assess the condition of architecture and architectural education with the aim of producing a manifesto for the future development of the fields. CASE served as a platform for discussion and helped to advance the careers of many of its key members. This talk presents CASE’s ideological focus and its enduring impact on architectural discourse today.

Susanne Bauer is a graduate of the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg in Germany and holds a master’s degree in Histories and Theories of Architecture from the Architectural Association in London and a doctorate degree from The London Consortium. Bauer is currently a Post-Doctoral Scholar at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia in Brazil, where she is researching Brazilian Modernism and its relationship to colour.
