Summary:

Heterogeneity and diversity of tasks have always characterized the architectural profession. And so architects have always been seen as specialists with in-depth knowledge of individual disciplines as well as generalists or 'totalisers' who know how to skilfully navigate and coordinate a wide range of tasks, ranging from architectural design to technical details. The Rice School of Architecture in Houston This idea of totalization for some years in their teaching. In the so-called Totalization Studios, students acquire practical specialist knowledge under the guidance of teachers from the school as well as external lecturers from different disciplines, which they then use to collect and reflect on project work. This book offers for the first time an insight into the course and content of these studios and presents the resulting projects. Material, shape, conversion, shell, structure--each chapter is dedicated to a thematic studio, followed by specialist areas of the consultant, such as building technology, façade construction, etc. These richly illustrated project reports are supplemented by in-depth specialist texts and discussions with the teachers.
