Summary:

Ian Ritchie, British born, trained at the Schools of Architecture in Liverpool and Central London Polytechnic between 1965 and 1972, and worked for four years for Foster Associates. In 1976 he set up as an independent designer in France and in the UK. In 1979 he was a founder partner of Chrysalis Architects with Alan Stanton and Mike Davies but left in 1981 to join the engineer Peter Rice and the naval architect/industrial designer Martin Francis in a Paris partnership, at the same time setting up his own firm Ian Ritchie Associates in London. The latter has particular interests in lightweight structures, passive solar energy, art and technology, and initiating community projects in the Wapping area of London where the studio is based. All this he describes in his talk, including work in Paris at the Parc de la Villette Museum of Science and Technology, the Louvre, etc. He enjoys side-stepping conventional approaches to design. His work has received many awards and been widely published and exhibited, and he has lectured and taught in the UK, France and Japan.
