Micro, metro, global : architecture and the environment.
Ottawa : Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, 1994.
96 p. : ill. ; 28 cm.
Canadian architects have increasingly voiced their concern about the condition of the urban environment. They have also called for the architectural profession to take a leadership role in establishing an environmentally responsible framework for design and construction. The 1992 National Conference held by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) was an enthusiastic and committed response to this challenge. The Conference consisted of a keynote address, case study presentations on the role of the architect in designing sustainable urban environments, and a 6-hour design charette to examine the environmental implications of designing a mixed-use project in one of three B.C. locations. These proceedings reproduce the texts of presentations given at the conference and provide a summary of the key issues and specific strategies raised during the design charette.
