Castle Assier in Quercy is a major building in the first half of the sixteenth century. Frame from 1510 to 1535 as projects increasingly ambitious Assier is a complex structure that perfectly illustrates the evolution of the architecture of the early Renaissance in France. Despite its peripheral location in the heart of Quercy, this castle is one of the great castles of the Loire because its builder, Galiot Genouillace familiar François I, was able to come to Assier prime contractors and sculptors of talent. Several original features singles that remains: who sculpted decor of exceptional importance, the use of flat arches carried by diagonal intersecting arches diaphragms, the emergence of a new type of roof, the dome at the Imperial. In addition, the castle offers one of the earliest examples in France Job ancient orders. If the personality of architects is unknown, as is almost always the case in the first half of the sixteenth century, that the builder is manifested vividly: the common emblems galore telling the glory of Galiot, grand master of artillery and equerry of France. Sold for demolition in 1768, the castle remains in part. By bringing two overviews drawn at the end of the seventeenth century many carved fragments that survived the destruction, we can achieve an accurate reproduction and revive a castle which we do not perceive the importance far.
